Note that you need to make a copy of your header.php file – put the copy in the child theme and make the changes there.

..and how can I centre the footer text? I put:

#colophon td{
text-align:center;
}

in my style.css file but its not working..

That code isn’t relevant – there is no table there. Try adding this:

footer[role="contentinfo"] {
   text-align: center;
}

To remove the search – go to Widgets and take out the search widget.
