Long narrow images not being cropped

Hi,

My website has just started showing thumbnails of different sizes. When I reviewed the error I found that narrow images do not get cropped.

For example if the width of the image is less than 300px and the length is 1000 then the thumbnail is not generated. I have thousands of images so this is a problem.

I have used various plugins (regenerate and crop, square images, regenerate images, etc) and also woocommerce regenerate, to try and force the squaring of the image but these plugins will not scale the image first.

If the images is not scaled to at least 300px and remains long at 1000px, it will not crop the image, this includes the product image which in my case should be 600 x 600. Instead it remains full size.

I don’t know what caused the issue (it started 1 week ago), the woocommerce plug in was recently upgraded. I noticed that for the first time when I upgraded woocommerce to 6.93 it crashed by site. A new release was sent out the next day 6.94 and this appears OK. It could be the fact that the suppliers are now sending out trimmed down images, instead of 1000 x 1000 they are saving space by sending 270 x 1000.
