Hi all,
After looking at this support forum and trying out different things, we have managed to find our problem and we wanted to report it here in case someone else is in the same situation and to inform the developers to fix it in next updates if possible.

After the two last updates of Elementor this week, users in one of the blogs in our Multisite installation (WP 5.5) could not access to edit their pages with the Elementor editor any more. However, this issue was not experienced by other blogs in the installation. We found out that the problem was related to long strings in the URL of the blogs, which Elementor was not able to process after the updates. We reduced the urls and it worked again.

This was part of the message of the kind of error that appeared in the logs:
PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Requests_Exception: Provided string is too long in /var/www/html/wp-includes/Requests/IDNAEncoder.php:70\nStack trace:\n#0 /var/www/html/wp-includes/Requests/IDNAEncoder.php(46): Requests_IDNAEncoder::to_ascii

Hi,

Does the issue happen only with Elementor or also with pages built with Gutenberg/the classic editor?
Can you send me an example of how the URL looks like? How long does it need to be?

Hi,
No, the issue just happens with Elementor.
An example of URL is die-schueler-erscheinen-massenhaft-in-gewissen-stunden-individualisierung-von. We were seeing that it may have max. 64 characters to work out.

We are using the following security plugins:
Wordfence Security
Akismet Anti-Spam

Hi eddyfv,
Unfortunately the issue is not solved yet. We were hoping that an update would come soon but this has not happened yet…
We are just recommending our users not to use Elementor by now.

Hope someone from WP development can tell us something more about the progress on fixing this issue.

I have the same problem, also opened an issue in Elementor github but no answer yet: https://github.com/elementor/elementor/issues/13789

It is a huge problem which is affecting many of our hosted sites.

I don’t want to change WordPress core to fix this.
