yes, however you need custom php coding and/or css styling to do this; e.g. Events > Settings > Formatting > Events

is that a job for a coder or possible myself?

depends entirely on your coding experience ??

php is probably needed here… you may be able to get this working with shortcode but not 100% sure.

this add-on someone sent me recently may help, it can show a list of events located in your area, which uses MaxMind to find your location based on IP address. we haven’t tested it out ourselves so can’t help you if it doesn’t work.

Can you be more specific about ‘look like this’ ?

I guess it is not so much about the look than the features this site has.
If I guess well, what are the features you find appealing for your own site ?

    Thanks

I basically want a county specific events directory so users can manage events or gigs they are associated with, be able to search by date/town/band but be set out similar to link posted. I would have two/three “categories” venue/band/event or such like.
    a “what’s on” event website

    cross between https://www.wherecanwego.com/
    and
    https://www.lemonrock.com/gigs.php

so I can have adds on one side
not sure I need geoip as it will be county (UK) specific

If it’s just based on regions/cities then you could use the region/state/town/postcode search attributes, which you can apply to any shortcodes with EM: https://wp-events-plugin.com/documentation/event-search-attributes/

    Hope that helps

    @mrppp,

    Thanks for clarifying.

I think this plugin already have a lot of features you would need to set up a site like the one you are showing.

However, though events-manager can associate an event with a venue (called location) it cannot associate it with another dimension (band in your case)
This could be a challenging idea for the future (if Marcus gets bored during long winter nights ?? )

As you say you can create a category per band and it could do the trick.

If you don’t mind a piece of advice: you should go online rapidly with events-manager (or similar) to see if you can get enough events to make the effort worthwhile

Do you think the demand will not be there?
what do others use events-manager for?

By the examples you are quoting, I have the impression you want to build a events site relying on visitors’s contribution.

My experience is that it very difficult to get people to submit events unless you already have a strong community you can count on.

So, if you are starting a community from scratch, you will have to advocate to explain why people should submit events on your site: this is what you want to do as soon as possible.

If you already have the users, you want to get some feedback from them as soon as possible

    Good luck anyway

if you can SEO your site to get decent traffic and rankings, then that’d be the incentive for event promoters to post their events on your site ??

Because it would be a county specific, I would have no problem with my SEO getting it to position 1-4 in searches.
The two examples given appear to find users;-))
