• Hey everyone, I’m just looking for a bit of advice today.

I’ve been working on a site for a few weeks now, and I’ve been given the task of implementing a forum.

I’m basically looking for your recommendations on forum software that can be easily implemented into an existing site with a custom theme.

I’ve looked into the possibility of PHPBB and BBPress, but I’m not too sure how those can be implemented.

Ideally, I’m looking for something that will allow users to register in order to post comments AND post on the forum.

    Thanks everyone!

  • I’m kind of looking at the same thing. Choosing between bbPress and SMF. The one concern I have is how well/how easily bbPress fits with other WP themes? How much extra work is usually needed to fit a theme? Is it typically plug-n-play or does it usually require additional modding?

I think BBPress is just plug’n’play, but to get the best out of it you really need to mod the template files.

Anyone got any suggestions about how to implement PHPBB?

Well, to be honest, I haven’t had a whole lot of experience in this area. I do know that bbPress seems to be a little weird when it comes to colors and such. If you’re already using the Twenty Ten theme, then it works great. I love it. Check out this site I built:

On my main site, I use Twenty Twelve not Twenty Ten. I’m trying to get it to look somewhat decent. Right now it looks horrible.

As to functionality, I really like bbPress. It’s great. Themeing is a little weird though.
