• Ok, I am probably going to reveal my utter and complete ignorance, but I am so very confused that I’ll take the heat.

I don’t understand about downloading WordPress 2.1. I mean, I did it, and got a bunch of unopenable files and stuff downloaded to my pc.

But I use the program online. I mean I sign in and there it is. I can write a post (but there I have other issues) and manage my blog, etc.

So what the heck am I downloading?!

I have a small understanding of html, and I fail to see how this is lauded the best blog site. It doesn’t do anything right. Even in the forum discussions it becomes painfully clear that unless I wish to wade through rivers of html code to fix the multiple snags, I basically am out of luck.

I am operating a blog that has multiple contributors who are either illterate of code and/or too busy to be bothered to learn. I do not wish to use all my time modifying these guys posts. I just want my blog to work.

So someone please post back and in plain english tell me how to accomplish these two things listed below.

    1. Paste in excerpt from website content using RTE. (learing html code is not an option for my contributors)
    2. Where do I alter the font size for the post section in the trik2 stylesheet?

I greatly appreciate any help offered.

    EF

If you’re not willing to use HTML, then I suggest using a different piece of software.

You could probably make WordPress work for you, but it is more geared towards people who are semi-knowledgeable about what they’re doing and who want large capabilities of customization. It has some concessions to user friendliness, but not as many as other blogging packages which are willing to sacrifice power for ease-of-use.

Perhaps Blogger or Moveable Type would be more up your alley.

I would be more than happy to help you out. I use wordpress for my site: sentletters.com, and I also host a blog on my server for a friend called oldbroadcasts.com, as well as various other places for work or fun.

I am a programmer in both PHP, and JavaScript (which is primarily what WordPress uses).

If you would like to contact me for help, just go to my contact page of the first blog i mentioned above.

    [moderator’s confusion:
    – is the OP (original poster) looking for paid help or volunteer good souls?
    – is the offer from the user above a charity offer or looking for business? > see his/her profile: interest in $

Both of you: heavenfish and wabler, please, clarify your position!]

no i am just offering free help

I put $ as a joke on my profile, and have taken it off of there.

    Thanks for the feedback!
(there is nothing wrong with liking money; money is not “evil” – people are, LOL… it’s just because of the rules here)

Good luck for both of you!

I don’t think there’s a way around your problem. If people are illiterate they should learn. If they are too busy to learn, they should manage their time more effectively.

As for using the RTE: forget about it. Try something like Markdown Extra instead. Yes, you will have to invest a bit of time learning the (very simple) syntax but it’s worth it.

Okay, I’ll give this a try.

To answer #1…copy your website content and past it to notepad first, then copy the plain text and paste it into the rich text editor in WP.

To answer #2 (and help you with #1), download this zip file. It is a copy of the advanced wysiwyg editor by Assaf Arkin, but I have put the additional editor icons on separate rows to solve alignment problems. Unzip it and then upload the advanced-wysiwyg.php file (not the folder, but just the file) to your plugins folder. Login to your blog and activate the plugin.

This will add some useful icons to your rich text editor.

Then you may want to view some of the videos here:

It doesn’t get much easier ??

    Good luck.
