Looking for a New Portfolio Plugin

  • My current portfolio plugin seems to have been abandoned by its developers and I now need a new plugin that has the same basic features as the original. I was using Nimble Portfolio but it’s been over 2 years since their last update and I’m now getting WordFence warnings about it, so it’s clearly time to find something new.

    I’ve done extensive searches both of the WordPress repository and general internet searches and I keep running across the same portfolio plugins that are really just picture galleries. What I need is a plugin that allows me to include both images AND text based content.

    I provide web development services and many of my projects I want to feature involve back end work where screenshots of the website do nothing to showcase my work, as I may not have even touched that part of the site. I need to be able to include text so I can tell the story of the project and go into the details that don’t show well in a picture.

    I’m open to any suggestions of plugins that would meet the above needs.

    If a picture gallery where you can include text will meet your needs, you might consider WooThemes’ FlexSlider.

    It’s not exactly a plugin, but a jQuery library. I believe some sort of WP plugin variant is available, though I’ve not used it. The library is pretty low level, no UI. You build your own HTML content. This does mean you can present any sort of content you want.

    If you want something more like a physical portfolio, you could create a custom post type and have every post present a different project. A contents page could list the latest projects, linking to the individual posts. Each post can link to the next earlier or later project. Basically working within what WP already does by default.
