I have a rather unusual (I think) problem and I’m hoping that somewhere there’s a plugin to help me correct it.

When I exported posts into WordPress about a year ago (from the dark ages – MT 2.661) all the post author names got discombobulated. I went into individual posts and manually corrected many of them, but that was too time-consuming and I still have about two years worth of posts attributed to all the wrong authors. I’m looking for a plugin that will let me batch edit authors, preferably from Manage > Posts though I’m not about to get picky. I’ve tried a variety of enhancing plugins but none of them have this specific feature, and searches have proved futile.

(Any kind of search and replace is not an option – the name ‘patterns’ change as our archive was so large I had to do the imports in batches, not to mention the year of posts made directly into WP.)

Any pointers would be much appreciated!

Thanks, but that’s not going to work. The name changes are too varied – they actually overlap in places – for something like that. Maybe I phrased it wrong…

For instance, in March 2005, Poster A’s name will be on Poster B’s posts, and Poster F’s name on Poster E’s posts. In December 2005, B’s name will be on E’s posts, and F’s name on A’s posts. And so forth – we have at least two dozen authors in the system, though only a handful post regularly, and each import spawned a whole new set of mixed-up attributions. Which is why I’m looking for something that will let me change author names manually in a batch.

I can’t find anything online either but it looks like the solution might be coming in 2.7: https://op111.net/p63

Fantastic! Though now I feel dumb – thought I’d already tried Manageable… But I’ll throw it in for the meantime.

In my current version of WordPress (2.8.4), you can use the bulk editor by selecting posts and then under “Bulk actions” apply “Edit”. If you have more than one WordPress users, you’ll be able to change the post author from a dropdown menu in the bulk editor.
