• Hi,

I’m looking for a very simple, minimalistic ecommerce theme to sell photography online. We want to offer both actual prints and digital downloads (not of the same photographs).

I’ve looked and looked for what my customer wants and cannot find it anywhere. The closest I came was the Photocrati Darkroom theme, but it still isn’t quite what he wants.

He likes the look of SimpleViewer and would like to incorporate that as the photo viewer, but that is not absolute necessary.

I’m looking for something like this for the “Showcase” page: layout.

Please any suggestions. I have tried creating the site on my own, but my css skills are just too limited and am spending too much time spinning my wheels. My customer wants this site up and functional by the Sept 30, 2011.

This will be a clean slate, so any version that will fit my needs. This guy thinks he’s making things easy for me, but because he want it so simple, I just can’t find it.

I choose WordPress because he will be traveling and wants to be able to blog.

    Thanks,
    Alisa

  • Try looking for the right theme and then installing an ecommerce plugin.

I have searched and searched all types of themes and have just not found what I’m looking for. I am hoping that someone will chime in and say, “I know just the theme you’re looking for” or “with a few plugins, this one will work for you.” I’ve been looking this time for about 20 hours and I’m so tired of looking. I go back and forth between finding something and creating something.

Do you have a non-ecommerce theme in mind?

    Thanks,
    Alisa

No – we’ve really got no idea what your client wants. Try looking via https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/tag-filter/

Did you look at my link?

    https://www.erikpoppkephotography.com/images/layout.jpg?

That is what he wants. This is SimpleViewer in the middle. They have a WP version.

I am really very new to WordPress. I just looked at all the CMS options and listening to Kim Komando etc… and decided on WordPress because it was supposed to be easier than the rest. I have never worked with a CMS before. Please help and don’t be rude or condescending. I have HTML, PHP/MySQL experience and some basic CSS and JavaScript experience. I haven’t worked with any web development in about 3 years, so way behind the curve.

    Thanks,
    Alisa

No one is being rude or condescending! This is your client. You know what s/he wants. We don’t. And we also only have access to the same theme searching tools that you do.

Look, I posted a mock up of what he wants. So, yes, I know what he wants. I posted a link to what he wants and all I get is

This is your client. You know what s/he wants. We don’t.

    So, what he wants is

    • black background
    • logo and nav on one line at the top
    • one column except on the purchase pages
    • minimal footer that just has copyright info, etc…

So, how can I find this? I looked at the link above, but didn’t see anything that even came close, ignoring colors, etc…

None of your suggestions have been helpful and the assumption seems to be that I’ve worked with WordPress or any other CMS before, or that I know what I’m doing. I haven’t and I don’t. This guy is more a friend than a client. I’m only passing charges through to him that I might incur along the way. I’m not charging him for my time.

When I search, I get thousands upon thousands of results. I keep changing my search parameters to see if I can come closer, but so far no luck. I don’t mind paying for a theme. I just can’t find one that will work. I don’t mind paying someone who can adjust a theme for me. I just don’t know where else to look or how to find someone who is willing to do that. I was hoping that someone who frequents this forum might be willing to help me figure this out.

So, has anyone used the Photocrati Darkroom theme? It’s $89. I don’t want to buy it and have it not work at all for him. I’ve already bought one theme that didn’t work out.

    Thanks,
    Alisa

    Ok so here’s an idea..
you can create the look you sent above with the simple viewer in the middle in html/css?
If so do that, install simple viewer.
If he wants to only blog, install WP in a directory
    mainsite/blog

If the blog doesn’t look like the rest of his site, so what? he isn’t a paying client and your doing a lot of heavy lifting for free and you’re learning as you go.

    Just an idea.

I ended up going with Photocrati Darkroom. The support is really good and I’m working on a hack to make the width fulid intead of static.
