• My ISP does not allow any free SSL certificates to be installed and I can only use the one they sell.??I have a few WP (latest version) sites where I would like to have one installed but am reluctant to spend the money knowing that there are free ones that are perfectly adequate.

Is there a way to use/install an SSL certificate that is free in my case?

Or a way to have folk login with HTTPS and not get a security warning (Firefox for example shows this – Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead)

As said, I use the latest version of WP.

    Thanks.

  • Use Really Simple SSL: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/really-simple-ssl/

That’s not possible. You need SSL/HTTPS to avoid this.

Hi George thanks for the reply. you wrote: That’s not possible. You need SSL/HTTPS to avoid this.

so how would I achieve this?

Thanks, I did that and it still gives me the same error

What exactly did you do and what happened? Did you actually install the SSL certificate? Or was there some error when you tried installing the certificate? Or did you simply install the plugin and called it “done”? What specific error do you see when you view your URL in the browser? What is your site URL so we can take a look?

Please invest a little time answer these question and provide as much detail about your situation as possible — so we can be in better position to help you.

    Standing by.

I get the same error as described before when I connect with FireFox

I installed the App but never got to instal a certificate or see an indication to do so. Or at least I did not notice I had to. I had tried this app before but without success. So on your suggestion I removed it an installed it again.

What else would you like to know?

The site is: www (dot) 816 (dot) i24 (dot) cc

It’s possible your host has blocked 3rd party cert installation. See the list at https://really-simple-ssl.com/install-ssl-certificate/

If you cannot install 3rd party certs, you’ll either need to pay up or move to a different host. There are lots of hosts who offer free SSL certs.

I installed the App but never got to instal a certificate or see an indication to do so.?

I just installed the plugin to test. Immediately after installation, I was presented with the prompt below to install the SSL certificate.

Additionally, on the plugin’s Settings page (SETTINGS => SSL), there’s a progress bar and a button to “Install SSL certificate“.

Are you not seeing any of these screens and buttons at all?

Or do you get an error when you click the button to install the certificate?

I did not get the option of Pic 1

I will now go to my control panel and see if I can find pic 2.

And there is the comment of @bcworkz that I need to check at a later point. But we try your suggestion first.

Just tried to follow your instructions. It is my ISP I suspect.

    Pic here: https://ibb.co/93jzGjR

PS why can I not upload pictures?

PS2 are there general instructions as to where to upload the certificate manually as I am not bale to do this automatically?

    (@bcworkz)

Unless you have VPS hosting, general instructions will not be helpful. Shared hosting typically doesn’t have adequate access to manually install certs. If your host allows 3rd party certs, they’ll have some sort of UI you can use to install certs. The UI can vary by host, so you best option would be to search their knowledge base for instructions.

About uploading pictures, it’s hard to say. Could be a script error, or inadequate server permissions. If your SSL isn’t squared away, that could be an issue. But if every thing is via http: with no https: mixed in, SSL status shouldn’t matter. I recommend starting a new topic about uploading issues so in each topic focus can be solely on the problem at hand.

Thanks everybody for chipping in. My ISP has now confirmed they do not allow it.

So I am up the famous creek. Either move to an other ISP or live with it.
