Looking for ideas for a News posting page

I just finished a WordPress site for a client but they’re looking for one more addition to the site. They would like a page created for posting news items and upcoming events. Currently, I set the blog page as their news page but it’s not quite what they are looking for. I’m looking for some ideas. I’ve looked through the plug-ins but didn’t really see anything for this. They’re a great client and in no hurry since they do have the blog page to post news items on. I would love to figure something out for them, though.
