  • Hi Sybre,

Thanks for this update! I will give it a try.

Remember to take a look at qTranslate X with qTranslate Slug. I guess many people use both plugins on their multilingual websites and I’d love to be able to use your plugin on my multilingual website.

    Have a nice weekend!

    George

    Hi GAain,

I’ve tested the Beta in three websites, two standard WP websites and another running WooCommerce (in maintenance mode).

It works like a charm on the standard WordPress websites, however the meta description is missing on the site using WooCommerce and the source code just displays the meta descriptions from Facebook and Twitter in both, shop pages and regular pages.

The site is using ShopIsle WooCommerce Theme and the Maintenance plugin by Fruitful Code is enabled.

Note: It also happens (only on this Woocommerce website) with version 2.5.2.4 installed. I have another WooCoomerce site using the same theme along with your plugin and it works fine, so I guess that the culprit is “Maintenance Mode” plugin. Anyway the site is offline.

    Cheers

    Hi Sybre,

I’ve been watching. Very excited to implement with the new version for three websites. Tomorrow’s a a new day and a new week. Let’s see, I’ll be watching from Africa.

    All the best
    Ciao

Thanks for dropping by George and mozimax :).

    @geetar:
I still need to test qTranslate X, but I’ve already created new cache keys for the translations which should fix the issue.

The language key generation is cached on load, when the “locale” has already been determined. So I put the language determination after the static cache (line 231~234 is the cache, 238 is language determination).

Let me know if it works as intended :).

I still have to take a look at the Woocommerce description issue, thanks for reporting it!

    Have a great day! ??

    Hi Sybre,

Mea culpa. It works perfect also on WooComerce. It appears that this website (under construction) was running another SEO plugin along with yours hehe, so this caused a conflict (same case than running two antivirus at once on Windows). I’ve deactivated and deleted the other plugin and it works like charm now.

Concerning qTranslate X, the main language works pretty good, however the rest of languages doesn’t include the meta description on the source code. I’m using qTranslate X along with ‘Qtranslate Slug’ which allows to change the slug for each language, so perhaps there is some issue with Qtranslate Slug.

This plugin is available here: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/qtranslate-slug/

Anyway I will check everything just in case there’s a mistake on my part i.g: running Drupal instead of WordPress LOL.

    Best regards,

    George

    Hi George,

Did you pinpoint yet if you’re running Drupal :P?

Kidding aside, I didn’t fully explore qTranslate yet before, but I have now :).

I see that the Canonical URL is lacking when using the slug extension, and that the URL is double when not using it.
I’ll see if I can fix it in the next beta release.

Regarding the Description, I can’t seem to replicate that. I’ll take a closer inspection on the cache keys. (I just did and they seem to be a-okay!)

I’ll keep you posted right here!

The qTranslate URL generation has been fixed :).
It now even listens to all the given settings (Subdirectory, Subdomain, hiding main domain and Query strings)!

    Hi Sybre,

Thanks for fixing this quickly! I will test the new Beta ASAP on my personal website in 3 languages and another website which has English and German languages.

I love the new Beta version because besides many improvements it allows to add or remove the small introduction on the meta description. The small introduction “the title on my website” is pretty good for many websites while keeping just the plain meta description is the best option for some other websites. Since every single site is different, users can choose the most convenient method.

It seems that on the previous beta you also changed the “NoIndex Robots Settings” on the “indexing” tab. Which ones should we check and which ones should be unchecked?

Right now I have the default settings from V 2.5:

    Apply NoIndex to Date Archives?
    Apply NoIndex to Search Pages?
    Apply NoIndex to Attachment Pages?

On a fresh install I’ve noticed that the settings differ from the ones above, but I can’t remember the the config.

Note: Guys you can use the beta on a production website, it works flawlessly.

Thanks you for your hard work and have a nice weekend!

    Hi George,

It’s great to hear everything’s working out great! ??

The defaults on check-boxes are marked with a green border, the “careful” options are marked with a red border.
If you don’t see green or red border, please inform me of the Browser and Operating System :)!

I’m unaware of the changes you’ve described, I did feature a lot of new grammatical improvements. However, I could be wrong, as it’s now more than two months of coding information to process.

Nevertheless, PHP 5.2 compatibility has been improved once more in the latest beta release. Also, some leftover testing code has been removed, which outputted G+ testing microdata on the front-end.

    Hi Sybre,

Here’s a screenshot of “Robots Meta Settings” and the “indexing” tab: https://postimg.org/image/65oi5x7tt/

Please note that I don’t know the girls appearing below the screenshot.

It is correct to do that, or it’s better to keep the default config? I do not know much about SEO.

    Kind regards!

Have just installed 2.6.0 on a test site and had a rummage around. Love the new SEO bar, plus now the “characters used” counter includes the placeholder text and pipe, the left/right added text to the document title works on Enfold theme and the add_action to place the SEO bar in the on-page module is still valid. Haven’t found any conflicts.

Great job Sybre! Looking forward to seeing this rolled out in due course. Let me know if you want a second pair of eyes on the language file before release.

Hi guys ?? Thanks for the feedback!

George, please see this per-case scenario (Question #1) for indexing settings. Removing tags from index have little to no impact if you already have categories and/or a blog to locate all posts. But the per-case scenario goes much more in-dept than that with a lot more details on the reason.

barnez, I’m really glad you love it! Did you know you can even click on the new counter for other views? It’s currently a site-wide option, which will be per-user in the future! A second pair of eyes on the language is certainly a great thing to have, which reminds me.. I still need to adjust a few sentences. Thanks! ??

    Have a great day guys!

No I hadn’t noticed. Nice touch, and I imagine it will also improve accessibility for the visually impaired.

    Hi everyone!

The beta is now a Release Candidate. This means no more changes are going to be applied, unless a significant bug emerges.

Last week I’ve implemented over 56 changes, including new filters and options, a layout overhaul, automated layout handling, etc.

The most important change I’ve made last week is the way the Home Page title is handled. There was a bug which was very deeply nested, and everything from there had to be adjusted accordingly. So keep your eye out on that one if you’re testing the latest version.

Another important change is on the Sitemap. It now clears known-to-be-unused global variables to save memory, as well as removing all output prior to starting the sitemap. This should fix its output on broken themes or in conjunction with broken plugins with debugging enabled.

The transients are now enabled. If there’s a bug found that can be caught by a transient, the transient will be invalidated with the upcoming bug fix.

Finally, after more than 3 months, the stable version is to be released on May 16th, if everything goes well :).

The patch file is found here.

    Happy testing!

    Hi Sybre,

Thanks for the RC! It works like a charm as usual.

Lots of lines of code. I will spend ages to read the full book.
