• Once I get it functioning, I’m sure this plugin will be invaluable. I just need some help getting rid of an error message. So I’m giving it one last try before hanging it up.

    The error is:

    Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /hsphere/local/home/galen5/familywebwatch.com/blog/wp-content/themes/Blix/contact.php:7) in /hsphere/local/home/galen5/familywebwatch.com/blog/wp-last_visit.php on line 55

    I’m not blaming the plugin, but I’m certain it’s related somehow because when I remove the code from my pages, the error no longer appears.

    Please note that I have already scanned the files for extra spaces for the php stuff, which I know is a common reason for this type of message. Still got the same result.

    Can anyone please offer some advice? ??

  • That’s what’s confusing for me. Shouldn’t the NEW tag and the ‘# of new posts’ jive? Like if the script considers that I have zero new posts, then why would it display a NEW image beside a post?

    Perhaps it’s not broken, maybe I just don’t understand what is is supposed to be doing.

    I saw your editing – I modded it to put it across the top on purpose ??

    Yeah, it still doesn’t work. I just added a new comment and it shows zero comments still.

    Damn, I wish I knew if this thing was just borked on my system or if I just don’t understand what it’s *supposed* to be doing.

    Crap.

    davinci: Altering the plugin looks tricky, so I just used this
    <ul><li>
    Since your last visit there have been:<br />
    <script type="text/javascript">slvBanner();</script>
    </li></ul>

    Of course the better way is to use the plugin and have a conditional in there so that the syntax makes sense (has been, have been type things)

    For the image, can you make another test post so that I see a “1 new” ?

    Heatsink – it was working wasn’t it ?
    I’d suggest living with it for a couple of days and seeing how it goes. Mine seems to get out of sync at times too but it’s only occasionally.

    Editing the sidebar instead of the plugin. Now why didn’t I think of that? ??

    I just made a new post.

    Hmm.. I see no little ‘NEW’ tag anywhere and it still says 0 /0 but maybe that’s because I refreshed and the post popped up. Not sure..

    Thread Starter davincim

    (@davincim)

    @heatsink – I don’t even see your banner showing those stats. Where is it?

    And fyi, it didn’t work immediately after I made a post. Probably stupid questions, but have you: refreshed? deleted your cookies? closed your browser and come back again?

    Thread Starter davincim

    (@davincim)

    @podz – that is strange I just posted another for you.

    The banner is right up top underneath the header banner graphic, but before the first post:

    0 new posts and 0 new comments since your last visit.

    Yeah, Ijust deleted all my cookies and sstuff.

    If it just wasn’t working then I would chalk that up to server times or something and wait for it. My problem is that it’s out of sync. I puts a NEW tag beside my most recent post but then doesn’t tell me I have any new posts. How can it determine that the post is new enough to put the image in front of it, but not tell me it’s new.

    Something’s borked, that just doesn’t make sense.

    Thread Starter davincim

    (@davincim)

    Hey, Heatsink, I see it now, banner AND images! Must be the timing.

    @davinci – still no little tags !
    For the image, if you copy the full url out of the plugin and paste it into the browser address bar, does the image pop up ?

    @heatsink – I’m out of ideas I’m afraid ..

    OK, thanks.

    I’m pursuing the cookie thing now….I may have the domain wrong…

    Thread Starter davincim

    (@davincim)

    @podz – that was it. I only put in the path “wp-images/new_7.gif” which must have been good enough for the other references, but not for the comments page. Once I put in the full URL, it worked.

    I saw your post. I forgot I had everything going to moderation, but you should see it now.

    So, if you aren’t seeing images, are you still not seeing the banner in the upper right?

    Is yours working correctly davincim? I can’t tell because you have everything going to moderation.

    Mine is borked…my newest entry is new regardless of whether I clear my cookies, close down my browsers…whatever. Even when the banner says 0 new posts, the new image still hangs beside my newest post.

    Comments never update. I could put in 400 comments and it will still say 0 comments.

    Same story as last time I tried this plugin.

    (@davincim)

    Yes, so far it’s working on my test blog. I’ll move it over to my live one a bit later today.

    And sorry for the moderation. ?? I guess I didn’t “Update Options” like I thought. I did just now and approved your comment.

    Since podz couldn’t see the images, would you mind checking out my blog as well for an added perspective? https://familywebwatch.com/blog_test/
