Looking to reducing white space in header around banner and menu

    hello, i am trying this theme for the first time. When I view my site there is a lot of space above the header image, and around the menu bar.

    I would like to reduce this space, mainly so that more of the content of the page is in view when it loads.

    Here’s a screenshot showing the areas I’m talking about:

    If anyone has quick tips on how to do this I would sooooooo appreciate it..

    note…. I moved the menu bar to below the header image in the code.

    I figured it out. stylesheet manipulation.

    Do not edit the Twenty Twelve theme. It is will be the default theme in WordPress 3.5 and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. First create a child theme for your changes. Or use a custom CSS plugin.

    can you share the required modifications needed in the CSS?

    ESMI, it’s too late I’ve already edited the stylesheet. I could overwrite with the original but then I’ll lose all my changes.

    I find it crazy that people should not be able to change the stylesheet. It’s right there for the changing on the admin panel, and I would think that most people would want to tweak a few things. In particular there is WAY TOO MUCH empty space at the top of the theme. Anyone who understands the value of real estate on a web page would know you can’t have all that white space there.

    If it’s really a problem when someone changes the css file, I would suggest setting it up as read only, and forcing people to make a child template if they want to change it. wouldn’t that make sense?

    So if I really am causing a problem, I’m willing to try to redo it. Can you let me know, what exactly is the problem? it’s kind of vague “having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues”. will I run into problems if I try to change to the new theme? what problem(s) am I creating?
