• I started using EasyIndex when Visual Recipe Index stopped working. EasyIndex, once set up, looks really nice. But I do have some problems with the way the indexing works, particularly with slugs.

Ideally, I would select the category I wanted indexed. That category would then show up in my menu and, when clicked, would show all of the posts within it. Instead, you click the category on the menu and you then have to click the category thumbnail, and THEN it will show you the posts. You can create a custom link in the menu to bypass this, but you still wind up with a slug that looks like this: “website.com/index/photography/photography.” Which is entirely unnecessary.

Also, if you don’t want your menu items changing, you can’t even use the index the way it’s made. You have to change everything to a custom link, which is a pain. If you don’t, you risk your site menu items changing to whatever page you’re on…which breaks the alignment of the menu and keeps readers from having full access to your entire site.

What I would love is for this plugin to just let you create a shortcode that you could insert into a page or post, which is what VRI used to do. That way, you can EASILY customize the way you want your site to be indexed. As is, this plugin is more complicated than it really needs to be and doesn’t give me as much control as I would like.

Ultimately, I can get it to do what I need it to do, just in a very roundabout way.
