Site Kit for some reason while connecting Search Console was picking up my domain without https and with a subfolder at the end of the url… this didn’t allow to configure google Analytics and then disconnected my Google Account and attempted a new Setup, but everytime I click on “Start Setup” it brings me on Google for authentication but then once back in Site Kit I get back exactly on the same page:

The Site Kit plugin is active but requires setup
    Start Setup

It looks I’m trapped in a loop: I already tried to deactivate, delete the plugin and reinstall, also I tried to delete cookies, and use different browser. still same error.

Thanks for opening a topic @maxmito! A few questions to help figure out what is occurring:

    1) Was the site verified in Search Console with the Google Account as the property owner, using any of these methods, before using Site Kit? On a site that hasn’t been verified, Site Kit would take care of that for you.

    2) Could you review our troubleshooting document to see if any of the known limitations could be a factor in your setup? Temporarily disable caching and security measures during the setup process.

Please let me know if this helps!

Site was already verified in Search Console, but while troubleshooting I removed the property from Search Console, added it again using the initial setup of Site Kit but once it finish I’m still redirected to Site Kit page in my Admin where I see:

The Site Kit plugin is active but requires setup
    Start Setup

If I Start Setup again, I would be trapped in the same loop, I will check all troubleshooting steps, but I basically tried all of them, and I don.t have any caching.

The first time I set it up it worked, it just picked up wrong url and it didn’t allow to setup Analytics. I removed everything started from scratch and here I am.

really appreciate the details @maxmito ! I’m checking to see if you were able to check the other items and complete the setup process? Also, are you on the most recent version of the plugin 1.0.4? Thanks again!

Yes still the same: since I disconnected my Gogole Account and tried to set it up agaion I’m trapped in this loop, I’ll give up for now.

@maxmito thanks for the update. Please look out for the next version, which will have several fixes. If you could pass along your host’s name or any Site Health information it would be great to see if we can replicate what you’re experiencing.

I update the plugin today (version 1.10) a d I tried to set it up again, there is a new error now right after I try to verify the ownership of the website:
Notice: get_current_page has been wrongly requested. Current page retrieval should be called on or after the current_screen hook

@maxmito thanks so much this update. Would it be possible to get your site health info and hosting provider? Having this error is a first step to us being able to recreate and resolve the issue. Thank you!

How can I send you the site health info? Not sure if sending them via comment is safe enough ??

    Hosting provider: HOBOHOST

Keep in mind that first time everything worked, only after I unlinked my google account and try to set it up again problem started

We are experiencing this same issue as well. This is what we did:

    – We have our site setup with WordPress as HTTP but are using a plugin to force all pages (including admin) as HTTPS

    – When setting up Site Kit, it went through the process of adding Google Search Console as HTTP but we are accessing WordPress through HTTPS which showed a permission error

    – We determined the reason for the permission error and we changed the setting in WordPress to HTTPS and clicked on “Reset Site Kit” to start over

    – We then clicked on “Start Process” in Site Kit and are now stuck in the same loop as described here

Let me know if this helps narrow down the specific issue.

Really appreciate the details! We’ll try to recreate it. In the meantime, could you update to version 1.1.1, and try to Reset the plugin again before the setup.

@benvoth what is the plugin you are using?

@maxmito totally respect that. We don’t currently have a way for you to send it to us, but if you can provide your Website URL and Site URL under Settings > General from the WordPress dashboard that may be helpful. It can even be “example.com” but I think having those values will help us recreate it. Also let us know if you have any redirection plugins or configurations that may alter your URL and what the change is.

@reneesoffice the plugin is “Really Simple SSL” (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/really-simple-ssl/). thanks!

@maxmito @benvoth we’ve just released version 1.1.2 which includes improvements to the setup process. Could you update and let me know if this issue persists? Thanks so much!

@reneesoffice i just updated and tried again. here are some notes:

    – i fully disabled/deleted the “Really Simple SSL” plugin and replaced all HTTP references in database with HTTPS so that the site is forced HTTPS without the need for a plugin

    – i clicked “reset site kit”, went through the process, and it redirected me back to the starting screen

    – i disabled all plugins except Site Kit, clicked “reset site kit”, went through the process, and it redirected me back to the starting screen

… the only other thing that might be notable is that I have another website on a different domain that I setup with Site Kit using the same Google account successfully, would that have any affect here (or rather, can the same Google account be setup with multiple installs of Site Kit on different domains)?

@benvoth thanks so much for the update! Yes, you can use the same Google Account for different domains (they would be different verified sites in your Search Console Account).

    If possible, could you:

    1) Deactivate and delete Site Kit on the site
    2) Logout and login of WordPress
    3) Reinstall and activate Site Kit and go through the Setup process

I’m very curious if something is not resetting somewhere. Or perhaps some redirections left on the .htaccess? So much appreciation for helping us troubleshoot this!
