Site Kit for some reason while connecting Search Console was picking up my domain without https and with a subfolder at the end of the url… this didn’t allow to configure google Analytics and then disconnected my Google Account and attempted a new Setup, but everytime I click on “Start Setup” it brings me on Google for authentication but then once back in Site Kit I get back exactly on the same page:

The Site Kit plugin is active but requires setup
    Start Setup

It looks I’m trapped in a loop: I already tried to deactivate, delete the plugin and reinstall, also I tried to delete cookies, and use different browser. still same error.

  • @reneesoffice i have followed your steps from your previous comment (and so therefore also used the latest version released yesterday) but I’m still having the same issue.

This website is installed and accessed through a sub-folder on the domain, so it’s not at the root level of the domain (or in a sub-domain). Would that have any effect here?

    Thanks.

@benvoth thanks for the follow up! We’re actually investigating some reports of the same regarding WordPress installed in a subdirectory, and sites accessed through a subfolder. We have this open issue to explore further compatibility. We’ll keep you updated on what we find. Again, thanks so much for your continued feedback.

I have the same thing ?? I am waiting for the solution …

Hi @benvoth! I’m following up on this topic again. Are you able to share the URL of the site that is on a subfolder? @qlphone @maxmito if you’re still experiencing the same that would be helpful to have for our investigation. Thank you!

@reneesoffice certainly! the URL is https://petbridge.org/web/. let me know if you need anything else. thank you.

thanks a bunch @benvoth ! Will continue to follow up accordingly.

@benvoth for the https://petbridge.org/web/ website could you provide these values as well:

    1) What are both the WordPress and Site Address under Settings > General?
    2) How is your site listed in Search Console?
    3) Which versions of the site for your Google Account are listed here on the Webmaster Central Website?

    @reneesoffice

    1. They are both https://petbridge.org/web

    2. It is listed as https://petbridge.org/web/ (and it is currently not verified)

    3. It is not listed here, probably because it’s not verified, right?

    Thank you.

@benvoth Just sending a quick update that we’re looking into this issue which may apply to your case on https://petbridge.org/web

In the meantime, are you able to update to version 1.3.0 to see if there are any changes? Again, your feedback has been valued as we work through this early stage.

@reneesoffice thanks for the update. i tried the process again (“reset site kit”, disable/delete the plugin, install the plugin, “sign in with Google”) and i’m still getting the same loop issue.

glad to continue to test and thank you for continuing to look into it.

I solved this in my case. Make sure all your domains (both http, https) are added in the search console and it is under same gmail account. All example.com,https://www.example.com,https://www.example.com should be added to your search console.

    @amar11s thanks for the feedback.

@benvoth I hope this finds you well, we’ve released version 1.5.0 with the fix mentioned above to allow for URLs to be updated on the Site Kit service.

    Could you do the following:

    1) Update the plugin to the latest version 1.5.0
    2) Reset Site Kit
    3) Proceed with the setup process

Let us know if you are successfully connected.

If you continue to experience an issue, please provide your Site Health info anew (we’ve added a new section for Site Kit specifically that will help us troubleshoot further).

@reneesoffice thanks for the follow up. i walked through the steps again and the same thing is happening: i land back on the “sign in with google to configure site kit” screen. i’m sending you my “site health info” for you to take a look over. thank you.

@benvoth could you try a few more steps to prompt the update on the Site Kit service:

    1) From the WordPress dashboard under Settings > General, could you temporarily change the WordPress Address and Site Address to https:// and then back to https://. (you may have to log back into your WP admin)
    2) Reset Site Kit
    3) Attempt the setup process again

Let me know if you have any questions and if you are able to connect.

same problem here… but i solved right now!
Yesterday my site kit was working, today i re-installed wordpress and site kit and i fall into this famous loop so i am here.
    – i disabled all plugins (like really simple ssl).
    – i delete my website propriety from search consolle
    – logged out and logged in on wordpress
    – installed site kit , reset it and then it finally works as yesterday.

    i hope it helps ciao
