• I have been working 2 months on converting a site from squarespace5 (not much fun) to wordpress. I’ve done it on my staging server and the client set up hosting with hostgator (who was supposed to migrate free) – and they did not – they set up wordpress – we purchased an optomized site – no cpanel – no way for me to reinstall – so I spent the majority of the day uploading the files via ftp – and trying different options to import – I ran across yous and loved all the details – I’m looking to purchase the whole unlimited plugin package actually – however – I’m having problems with the syncing – I’m deleting the thumbnails that were created – and will try again -but it’s like an endless loop – I stopped the sync and went back in to the folder and it seemed it was working? I didn’t hit regenerate thumbnails but it seemed to have been creating thumbnails of the thumbnails I had uploaded ?? – ideas? Will pro be different? It’s a newspaper site with a lot of photos – squarespace5 didn’t have them by date – they had them all in /storage/ – so battling a few issues – input appreciated. I tried the Media from FTP – changed the date thinking they would be put in the correct folder – no ??

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

You do not want to upload thumbnails, just original images.

When the sync function is activated, it has to look through all the files in a folder and finds the original images (the ones that are not WordPress generated thumbnails) and then checks Media Library to determine if that image is already in the library for the current folder. Media Library folders looks at the file name and if it finds, for example, IMG_0824-624×466.jpg, it tries to find the original, IMG_0824.jpg. If it cannot find the original file, it assumes that IMG_0824-624×466.jpg is an original. If IMG_0824-624×466.jpg is not in the media library, it adds the file and WordPress automatically generates the thumbnail images. Thus it is best not to have original images that follow the pattern of name-<number>x<number>.extention. If you want to include the image size, then maybe a file name like this would work as an original, IMG_0824_624x466.jpg, which uses the under-bar rather than the dash.

I did the deactivate and activated the reset – is there anything else I should do? I deactivated reset and reactived the library – but it still appears to be seeing the removed thumbnails? Also – Do I regenerate the thumbnails once the folder says no files found to sync? Thank you!

Did you manually delete the images from the server? The WordPress Media Library and MLF do not work like the file manger on your computer. The Media Library is a database. If you manually remove images and their thumbnails from the site, there are still records of the deleted images in the Media Library. To properly remove them, you delete them from the Media Library and in the process, they are automatically remove from the server. And the reset program does not modify your Media Library, it only removes information about folders, which only Media Library Folders uses.
