• I think I may have lost my entire website….

I have transferred my domain to a new provider. I did not realise that the access to my website files in wp was connected. I thought that my login to wp was a seperate thing and I could get on with backing up and then migrating my website…not so sure now as I can’t access my website account in wp.

I don’t have any wp to click on in my old host and my new host is just showing a new blank wp and goes to “site not found” if I try to get in to my admin panel via the new hosts.

Have I messed up terminally this time? I did do a rss export thing but didn’t back up as it was next on my list of things to do. Not sure what, if anything I can do with the rss / xml thing? Can my files be retrieved somehow or has my website disappeared in a puff of ineptitude?

Your site opens fine for me.
    – It displays Twenty Twenty-two theme’s header with bird.
    – Also, it displays a post “Hello World“.

It is supposed to be a theatre making website with the company name “Entify” and images of my work. What you describe sounds like the starting point page that you then work on etc? I had an entire 135 page website and cannot access the files anymore on wordpress.
I managed to sign in just now and it said that the account is deleted. I think that means my only option is to try and do account recovery?

I have transferred my domain to a new provider.

WordPress has documentation on moving a site at https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/moving-wordpress/

Please review it and see if anything is at miss.

it said that the account is deleted.

Contact your hosting provider and asking them what’s going on.

Thank you. I never got as far as migrating it though at all so would the wp website files be tranferred automatically somehow? I thought i needed to move the domain first and then could back up and migrate everything from wp after…think that was wrong now

No, there is no automatic migration of WordPress installations between different hosts. If you do not have a backup of the project yourself, contact the previous hoster and ask whether the project is still there and how you could get a backup.

I will ask them. The domain comes up as transferred away so not holding my breath. WOuld account recovery on wordpress work?

WOuld account recovery on wordpress work?

I’m not sure if I understand your question.

As threadi said above there is no automatic migration of WordPress installations between different hosts.

Also, the Database of your site is installed at your server.

If you did not make a backup of your project before undertaking migration process, then ask your previous hosting provider if they still have a good backup of your site.

Thank you all so much! The previous host company has sorted a zip file backup of the entire website and I have downloaded it. Off to find someone to set it all up for me now as all this web stuff is hurting my brain.

Great that you found a backup. You could ask your hosting support for the backup. They might be able to help you. Or you can find someone here who can help you: https://jobs.wordpress.net
