• I was working on adding an image to the text widget in my blog, jose-r-perez.com. I clicked on Save after pasting the new piece of code and then visited the site to see how the changes worked.
It turned out I lost every post and comment I had and the theme reverted to the default (I had been using the Flexibility2 theme).
Yes, I do not have a backup… Anything I can do now?

    Thanks,
    Jose

  • Clean the content in the text widget, or deactivate the widget ans see what happens.
I see your theme is back allready.

    Thank you, henkholland.
Unfortunately, except for the Flex2 theme staying available in the blog (I reactivated it yesterday, that’s why you see it now) everything else is gone, including the text widget. It’s as if I had never worked on the blog…

Gee, and in your admin you do’nt see any posts at all?
Any chance of logging in to your database and checking if it’s empty (or asking your provider to put back a backup from before the DATE?)

Yes, nothing at all in my admin…
I’ve asked the help of my provider now, I hope I can get something (anything!) through him.
When you say “logging in to your database and checking if it’s empty”, what file would you suggest me to look at?

Thank you so much for following up, henkholland.

    And God bless,
    Jose

    Hi Jose,
Logging in to your database: that depends on where you are hosted. i only know my own Plesk admin where I can see if there exist any database tables and if there is anything in them.
This would be a login your hosting company provided, so NOT through the WP admin but fully outside of that.
What files/tables? For me the database prefix is wp and the tables are like wp_posts ; wp_termrelationships etc etc, 12 tables and they all show a number of records and a size in kB. So I know they are not empty.
If you can get access, make a backup first.

Thumbs up José, maybe the hoster comes up with a restore.

    Thanks, henkholland.
I’m all dependent on my host now.

Everything is gone, no way to recover it, my host has informed me.
It’s time to restart that blog!

    Jose

Ah José, that really sucks. From now on do a daily data export through “Admin/Tools/Export and over ftp backup your content folder. There are also Plugins for making backups.
