Hi there, I just migrated from blogger to a positive fusion hosting and 123 reg domain. I did this because they install word press for you, but i’m having some issues. I can’t change any settings and get the error ‘cannot send refferers’, I changed the settings in firefox to allow them but this didn’t make any difference. Also, if you go to https://www.non-tech-city.com you can see that it looks awful, why is this?

What version of WordPress did they install for you?
It looks like it is just a page without any template.

It’s 1.5, apparently there is an active theme as well.

    Ogh…

When first viewing the page it was unstyled. Not unusual, I had a similar problem in the past. But I looked deeper, and at your source code. I don’t know who positive fusion hosting is I couldn’t tell them from the man in the moon, but!

I would suggest you Run and Run very fast away, they ae idiots!

I found this in your source code: “DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN”

and this:Sorry, you don’t appear to have frame support.
    Go here instead –

These people are living about a decade behind the current one the rest of us are residing in. They have set you up useing frames a design method from the dinosaur age in internet/design terms.

It did look ok for a brief period, with a blue banner. But then stopped working. It installs using a script, will this not be ok then? Will I really have to move and will I get my money back?

Excuse my extreme use of satire. You souldn’t have to “run”

Just contact your host and tell them in no uncertain terms that WP does not now or ever use frames, and to get with the program and OBT move into the 21st century.

Point them to this page if you have to. It will instruct even them how to install WP correctly.

Just out of curiosity, what script is being used to load the page?

    Thread Starter non-tech-city

I have no idea what script is being used i’m afraid. As for informing them, they don’t offer support on word press itself, so they won’t help.

@non-tech-city: I too think you should drop your host and move to someone else. Not knowing the host and the terms, I’ve no idea on the chances of you getting your money back. I suppose it comes down to trying to get WP to work in whatever circumstances your host are actually offering, or just quitting and shifting.

It’s nearly midnight here, but if you want to try where you are I’ll help tomorrow if you want ? My email is tamba2 at gmail dot com

I have just received this reply from tech support:
“I’m sorry, but these are questions that need to be directed to the WordPress support forums. We cannot offer detailed support for software being used on the hosting account, including software that we assist in installation with through Fantastico.

The referrer issue is definitely not something we can control, it has to do with your local computer, if the documentation provided earlier did not solve the problem, you’ll need to search out additional support from the WordPress team. There is nothing that we can do to change that particular behaviour of WordPress.

In regards to the theme issue, your CSS is not rendering, which is why it doesn’t look like a “WordPress site.” This is also a problem that we’re unable to assist with, though one user reported this problem and solved it by changing the ‘document encoding’ type. I would suggest also taking this to the WordPress forum for diagnosis.”

    I sent this in reply:
“I signed up with this hosting because I was unable to install
wordpress myself. I was told that I could be provided with a full
install of word press and now I am not being given that.

    Matt”

That framed page your WP resides in is the host’s doing, right? Because when I try to view/edit the stylesheet in FireFox, the frame page’s source shows up instead of the text in style.css (which is linked from your source code AND works properly). I don’t know how the frame page got there, but I’m pretty sure that’s messing it up and causing that “not rendering” your host’s reply talked about.

Is your domain a “frame redirect”? Because when I open the page outside of the frames, the url change to the one with tilde (~). Could that be causing the errors?

I don’t know about these things, so I’m just guessing.

I take it back, the frame problem was my web forwarding. And although my host doesn’t offer support they were remarkably patient with me and I now have a working site.

    New Site: https://www.non-tech-city.com

    Thank you everyone!
