I’m using the Escutcheon theme on more than one site… one built directly through WP and one accessed through a hosting company (Windstream.) One instance (the former) has features that are not available in the other such as Font control and the ability to add a Logo. The lacking site is Automattic’s latest update of Escutcheon, and the description says Font control and logo adding should be there. Is this a WP issue or do I have to find answers from Automattic? Is it possible that a freshly downloaded version could be defective in some way? Can I (should I) safely reload the program over itself?

Hi there, there are some differences between the self-hosted and WordPress.com versions of Escutcheon.

To upload a logo on the self-hosted version, just activate the Jetpack plugin and you should find an option to upload a logo in the Customizer’s Site Identity panel.

Custom fonts and colours are a WordPress.com-wide feature and not something built into the theme.

If you’d like to add another font on your self-hosted site a simple way to do it is using a Google Fonts plugin.

If you need help targeting specific elements with custom CSS in order to change the font once you’ve installed a Google Fonts plugin, just let me know which element whose font you want to change (for example, the Site Title?) and we’ll be glad to help. If you could also provide a link to both sites if you need further help, that’s always handy too. Thanks!

Jetpack plugin worked without difficulty. Thank you. However, “Fonts” does not show up in any Dashboard menu and, though I have installed and activated Google Fonts Manager… and it appears as a menu item under settings… when selected, the error message I receive tells me that I need a “Google API Key” (whatever that is.) I followed the instructions, at one point was asked to create a project name, etc. but I still only get the same error/info message requiring an API Key. I guess that I need either a way to add “Fonts” to my Dashboard menus or a way to accomplish getting/entering an API Key. Your assistance would be most appreciated. Best,

You can try getting help with the Google Fonts Manager plugin in their support forum:
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/google-font-manager

or have a look at the FAQ, where they explain how to get a Google API key:

    Good luck!
