• Hello

I was about to change my blog over to another url but that didn’t go well..

I was in the settings tab and I changed the blog url to where I want the blog to be in the future. It changed it, but its not showing up. Because the blog url is not showing up, I cannot get back into the admin section of my blog to change it to its original state.

    How can I fix this?

Is there any other way to get into your admin section?

  • Hi, you can reset the url from PHP Myadmin.
This is a good video tutorial.

Thanks so much…I have one more question…. How do you get to the options File if you are ftp rather than php myadmin?

If by ‘options file’ you mean the wp_options table, there isn’t a file you can edit really– at least not one that you can get to without very high level access to the server and it isn’t a file that you should directly edit anyway even if you could get to it. wp_options is a database table (which you can’t access via ftp). You have to access it via some kind of interface like phpMyAdmin. Your web host should have some kind of DB interface. I don’t know which one.

I cannot find the options file…I think my wordpress version is lower than 2.5

kandrews86: There is no options file (not to be confused with wp-config.php which is a file containing some options but it is not the one you need to be worried about right now). There is an options table in the database. You cannot edit the options table directly by accessing a file on the server. The MySql database doesn’t work that way. You have to use an interface like phpMyAdmin. That interface should be provided by your web host. Stop looking for a file, login to your web host account (not the WP admin section) and start looking for a database administration panel.

As per that great video tutorial from figaro, using FTP, you patch wp-config.php.
The wp_options table is in the database, you access this through PHPMyAdmin.

Hi again, in fairness to figaro, I must point out to anyone watching the video that he makes it very clear that changing the confg.php file is a patch and a temporary way to get into the site, and also points out that as a long term solution it should be changed in the wp_options table you access this through PHPMyAdmin. I thought it best to make this clear as figaro gives both options in the tutorial and I didn’t want the original OP confused.

    I hope you manage it.
    Mike.

I have totally messed up my blog and the video doesn’t work as a solution to my problem. I changed the url to the website address without the /tips/ art to it. It wouldn’t let me change it back either. I can’t get to my php and can’t find it either. The blog comes up without anything fancy. The suggestion on the vidieo didn’t work for it because I don’t have that login on my blog page. Now I can’t get into my dashboard and WordPress refuses to recognize my password or username. Also I couldn’t access my FTP, maybe I didn’t have one. So I tried to download/upload it. That didn’t help either. How do I get my blog page back when none of this stuff works and I can’t access my dashboard or my settings or anything? I’ve been trying to fix this for several hours to no avail. Can anyone S-L-O-W-L-Y walk me through this? I’m am worse than a newbie beginner with this. Thanks.

    trease: what is your URL?

    @trease
I have to be honest and say you would have been better starting your own thread on this, you don’t say why you’re having the problem what version of wordpress you are using, or a link to your site. The OP of this thread had changed his url and so had the problem.
    When you say.

I can’t get to my php and can’t find it either.

what do you mean ? If you have a self hosted blog, you must have used ftp to upload it, or was it a one click install. If you’ve been trying to fix this for several hours what have you done.
