• Please help, I’m so frustrated. I tried to move a “test” website from directory https://www.unrequited-love.com/website to just https://www.unrequited-love.com, and everything f*ed up. I’m fiddling about with code I know nothing about, I don’t know web development at all.

    What I’ve done:
    1. I’m trying to make one WP install my primary website at https://www.unrequited-love.com, and another WP install a “blog” at https://www.unrequited-love.com/blog.
    2. I’ve repeatedly deleted and reinstalled WP to https://www.unrequited-love.com directory trying to get it to work.
    3. My other WP site at https://www.unrequited-love.com/blog works fine, it has been running for couple weeks now.
    4. I’ve gone into Bluehost C-panel and deleted all original website files (not-WP files). I’ve deleted everything associated with original non-WP website and failed prior WP installs via Filezilla.
    5. Now, I can get into WP install for website and get to dashboard, etc., but going to view site results in “404 Not Found
The requested URL /url_001.htm does not exist. ” I think this is a file associated with my original website but the file does not exist now, I don’t know why it’s looking for it.

How to fix? Pulling hair out for several hours now!
BTW, I love WP, much more versatile than what I originally had on my site. Hope I’m not doomed.

  • So, let me see if I understand…

You deleted EVERYTHING in the root folder EXCEPT the blog1 folder.

Then, you ran an out-of-the-box wp install into the root folder, created a wp-config.php, and it doesn’t run.

    is that right?

Hi, just went to get a snack, thanks for being here.
Not really, I didn’t do anything with any config file. I don’t understand files and code and stuff. In my Bluehost File Manager, I deleted everything that looked like it was part of my old website but there are still other files there. In Filezilla, I now have in my public-html folder a number of folders associated with Bluehost, an installation of WP called “blog” and three WP folders “admin, contents, includes” that are directly linked to public_html in my attempt to get my website URL and WP installation to be the same thing.

I suppose I ran a couple of out of the box WP installs (back and forth), trying to move all my folders/files from my WP/website directly to my public_html folder.
I can copy things for you if that would help…

I’ve totally given up on trying to get the WP website I developed back, I just want my URL/site and I’ll remake my entire WP website over again, if I can get it pointing to the right directory/folder, ie, https://www.unrequited-love.com/

Read the FAQ at the codex for running multiple blogs from the same url.

Thanks, I just figured it out. I just needed to clear my internet browser cache, it was looking for a “ghost” or something. I’m sorry to have bothered you, I really didn’t have the slightest idea where to even begin to try and fix this. I actually did look at that article, I just didn’t really understand it. I just ran into blind luck by guessing at possible solutions.
