Please forgive me. I’ve searched for several hours now and I am not find an answer specific to my situation.

I lost my directories and files in a server crash. Nothing was salvageable.

However, my database is in tact on the server. The information has not been altered or damaged.

How do I restore my blog?

I’ve tried to run the install process after copying a new copy of WP 2.3.2. Unfortunately, it just gives me a brand new blog. How can I get my blog back?

  • You did a new installation with the correct old database info in the config.php? If that didn’t resurrect your blog, something may have happened to the database as well. Maybe someone knows a trick to make a database backup that you can import in WP?

When I run the web install process I get the following message:

    Already Installed
You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.

I don’t want to lose all those blogs. What should my next step be … is there a way to do this without clearing my tables?

Ok … I’ve deleted my tables.

    Then finished the install.

    Checked it. Looks good.

Then, I import my old database.

And … NOTHING. It’s still the same as a brand new install. There is nothing from my previous blog site. The only thing that happens with the import is that the admin account becomes unusable .. regardless of the passwords I use.

    Any ideas?

    Fixed it.

I dumped a new copy of 2.3.2 on the server.

Ran the config process. While editing the database name, user ID and password, I just updated the table prefix name.

Default table name is wp_ my old table names started off with another prefix.

    Done.
