• I’ve checked several other threads with this same issue but haven’t seen one that has helped, yet. When moving my blog to a new url I lost the function of my images. Though their existence still remains in my media library as well as my file manager, you can’t actually see them.

When trying to get help from my hosting this is how they explained what the problem is:
The best way to explain it would be to go to your WordPress Media Library and hit the “edit” button on an image that is missing or not showing. There will be information regarding the “URL location” of the picture file. This will be something like “wp-content/uploads/2013/01/becoming-bill-0011.png” for example , but in your actual wordpress files that picture is located in “wp-content/uploads/2013/02/becoming-bill-0011.png” . If you browse through your wp-content/uploads folder you’ll see that it’s this way for almost every single image.

So, how do I fix this?

The above reply from your host explains it. You may need to change each URL to match the posts and pages that are to link to them.
BTW, how did you move your site? Individual files and folders via FTP? If so, what I understand is that you moved them to the wrong locations. For example the images of a particular year/month are uploaded to the next or previous month.

I have close to 300 posts, most with several images, so manually changing the url of EVERY image would be extremely tedious.
How did I move it? Well, after several different attempts and the help of one great support member if was finally there. I think we were able to use my xml file exported from the original wp site.

Does that mean I can just move each file up/down one month folder in cyberduck to fix the problem?

What changed? The domain name or the dates? You may be able to use a plugin to fix those URLs –

Be VERY sure to backup your database before doing so.

That’s not the problem. Already tried using the velvet blues plugin. It isn’t the url but something further down in the image link.

You need not move individual images, as I think images for a particular month were moved to another month. You need to move the folders of images for each month to their correct locations. That will solve the problem.

When I look in the files in my ftp client, using the image referred to above image, it is located in the same spot its url says. Maybe I don’t know what is meant by my “actual wordpress files.” I logged in to the server using cyberduck and have matched it up under public_html>meghannchapman.com>wp-content>uploads>2013>01>becoming-bill-001.png

I also went into my files manager in the cpanel and found the same image under www/meghannchapman.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01

So, if I can’t find it in the “wrong spot” how do I move it to the “right spot?”

It’s tedious job! But what I understand is you have not lost your images, but they are in the wrong locations. Right?

Well, I really can’t tell for certain. When I use my ftp client to to download and save an image to my computer, my viewer says the image can’t be opened because the file is either damaged or in the wrong format. Its just two .jpg files I was trying to open.
