I recently installed Jetpak to my www.ads-software.com site and lost header menus. My web host was unable to help. www.ads-software.com would not help so I’m reading out here.

I like what Jetpak offers, but it caused the loss of header menus. The minute I deactivated it, after re-setting up the menus and all contents several times manually and failing, the menus stayed.

I am now too scared to reinstall Jetpak and hope that someone can explain how I can prevent the same thing happening again if I do.

    Hi there,

Is this issue coming after installing the Jetpack or Jetpack Social plugin?

It might be possible some files are corrupted when installing the plugin and changing the layout of your site when activating the plugin. Could you please try to completely delete the plugin from your site and reinstall and activate it?

Animesh, thank you for your reply. It was Jetpak itself, but I did click briefly on the social offering, and the timing might fit, although I’m not sure. I turned it off within an hour because I don’t like the fact that WP.com requires people to be WP.com before they can click the like button.

I had only installed Jetpak a few days before, and maybe that caused the issue. However, I’ll take your advice and remove the plugin altogether.

For now, I’m too scared to re-install it, but I did like two things (only free options), it speeds my site up and sends my posts to Facebook and Twitter, which means I could eventually get rid of Yoast SEO.

Any further advice on these things would be more than welcome.

    Regards
    Lindy

    Hi @wattletales

Jetpack requires a WordPress.com account to save the like preference of a user, as it isn’t possible to do that without it.

To clarify this, are you using the Jetpack plugin or the Jetpack Social plugin? There’s a difference between those, as Jetpack has many other features. If you are using that one, it may be worth reinstalling it again, and checking the list of modules, so you can disable all of those you don’t use (which may have caused the issue you’ve experienced).

Support for the Jetpack plugin is offered in this forum:

Dear Mehdi, Thank you for your reply.I may have clicked jetpak social plugin to on when I first installed Jetpak. Now I have the barest essentials on, the main on being being Boost. What is the problem with the Jertpak Social plugin?

I will save the link for future support. Thanks for that.

    Lindy

    Hi @wattletales

I can see that you’ve mentioned Boost, which is the first thing that comes to mind since it generates critical CSS and optimizes your website loading speed.

Could you give it a go by disabling Jetpack Boost’s features? Jetpack Social shouldn’t alter or influence your website’s menu. Still, since Jetpack Boost optimizes aspects related to your website’s speed and design, it’s worth checking what happens with those options turned off.

Please also make sure you are running the latest versions for everything you use on your website (WordPress, Jetpack, and all the other plugins as well).

Dear Mehdi, thank you for following-up. The menu loss has been rectified. I had of course to rebuild all the contents which was a pain, but it all works. Since that issue, I discovered my site had malware and have just had that cleaned and strong security installed. So, I’m too scared to risk doing anything new again for a while… I would like to use Jetpak more and will give it a go again later. Who knows, it could have been an early indicator of malware that lost my menus and the fact that I switched Jetpak off had nothing to do with it.

As an old woman and a novice in these areas, I am inclined for now to let sleeping dogs lie but I really appreciate your interest and help. You may see me back one day ??

    Hi @wattletales

Thanks for reporting back! I think the malware caused the loss of your header menu since it was removed entirely from the back-end (my initial assumption was that it only disappeared on the front-end), but now things are clearer.

I understand your hesitation to install Jetpack at this point, but I suggest you test on a staging environment by cloning your production site to feel more at ease in installing Jetpack on your production site after that point.

I’ll be marking this thread as solved; however, feel free to contact us if you need help ??
