Lost my rankings

    Hi, I don’t the main cause, but yesterday, after updating yoast plugin my entire website rankings were gone, I mean all of it. All the pages, that I used to rank before were all shifted to much higher positions, I checked my GSC and there were no issues, I also did live test of all my ranking URLs, everything is fine.

    I don’t know what to do to bring back my rankings. Please help here.

    @qph9697 Updating the Yoast SEO plugin would not cause an immediate ranking change for a site. When the plugin is updated all of your site’s settings and meta data would remain the same. The update would only change the plugin’s core files in order to implement bug fixes or add new features. You can view the details of what changes were implemented in the 14.8 release of the plugin in our changelog here: https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/change-log-wordpress-seo/

    If you suddenly experienced a change in your site’s ranking or traffic, it may be due to a recently implemented change in the Google algorithm. You can view a comprehensive list of these change here: https://moz.com/google-algorithm-change

    Even if you erase your entire site your rankings will take days to drop, not hours.
    Find the cause somewhere else.
    I m sure today your rankings are back to normal, are they?

    Hi,

    As mentioned, an update to the Yoast SEO plugin wouldn’t be a factor in causing all of your site rankings and traffic to be gone. If there also were any severe problems such as the site not being reachable, the Yoast SEO plugin as well as Google Search Console would inform you if there were any crawlability or indexability issues with your site.
