Lost Newb needs help

  • Im a newb to WP but Im not a newb to some basic website building things. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use this. I have read the instructions and everything and I still cant figure out what its referring to half the time and I cant get it to install. I downloaded the file and when I try to open it nothing happens no matter what I try to open it in. I truly cannot figure this out. Anyone have instructions to help someone with the a five year olds knowledge of how to do this???

  • Do you have your own website set up, or are you trying to run wordpress off your local machine?

    Most webhosts have mechanisms by which you can install wordpress on their servers. The method varies from company to company, but you should be able to install without having to download the original archive. Running WordPress on a local machine is a trickier affair, usually involving installing your own Apache and mysql server through packages like XAMPP or MAMPP.

    TL,DR: If you’ve got a webhost, ask them to install WordPress. Otherwise, start up a blog on WordPress.com, where it’s fast, free, and no installation is required.

    I have my own website and I have a domain name… Ill ask my webhost to install it thanks! I hope that gets me further :o)
