• So I recently installed WordPress 3.9.1 (new install) and it’s coming to my attention that the ‘lost password’ email doesn’t send. I’ve tried my spam folder as well as using both username and email to retrieve my password. It’s not an admin account and I haven’t lost my password, I still have full access, but this stands as an obvious potential issue for users.

A new email is sent upon registration – that works okay, but the lost password doesn’t.

I’ve de-activated a few plugins I thought could have been affecting the issue and the only active plugins I now have are the following:

    Akismet
FooBox Free Image Lightbox (I think a theme said to install this so I just did)
    Sabai

Plugins I de-activated in case they were affecting this but had no effect:

    Easy WP SMTP
    Register Plus Redux
    Theme My Login

Any ideas what could be causing the issue?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Thanks for your quick response and advice.

I’ve tried the top 3 with no avail.

For the third this was already set to a:0:{} but I manually set it and tried again anyway.

I haven’t waited too long for an email to come through but every email previously sent from my site to my email has been immediate (albeit into the spam folder which may crop up as another issue once this is resolved).

I’ve got an early morning and long weekend ahead so need to hit the hay but will try the fourth when I get chance.

In the meantime if anybody has any further suggestions please put them forward and I’ll try them as soon as I can.

Okay I’ve tried replacing a number of the old files and folders but I can’t really use FTP as the computer I’m using is really dated and can barely run Google Chrome with the occasional instance of Windows Explorer, I don’t really want to be downloading/running additional software if possible, which makes this a pretty laborious task.

I tried replacing all the files in the public_html folder and also replaced admin/includes (I figure replacing folders of images/css probably won’t make a big difference?).

Does anybody have any idea of specific files which I should target to replace, or have any other suggestions for the issue?

Right, I’ve now replaced all the files/folders excluding the ones you said not to, but I’m still having the same problem.

    What else can I try?

I’m not hopeful but … ensure you are using the latest version of your theme, and post the url of your site. The markup may give a clue.

I just updated the theme a few days ago as a new update became available so that’s all up to date [I’ve tried a few different themes, none of which have worked].

    The site is at https://www.restaurantsinhull.co.uk

I’ve had a look at your site but my checks revealed no clues. Can anyone else here help with this issue?
