Lost password email link redirects to lost password page

Thanks for reaching out!

The problem is that the password reset link sent by e-mail will always lead you to the same previous page to enter the e-mail address. Seems like a loophole in WooCommerce.

I replicated the scenario on my personal site. Here are the steps:

My Accounts > Lost your password:

I am redirected to this page, inputted my username or email address, then clicked Reset password:

Received this email and clicked the link: Click here to reset your password

I am redirected to this page asking for my new password:

I would like to replicate the steps on your site, however, I cannot find the link to register a new account.

I’d like to understand your site properly, please share your System Status Report that you can find via WooCommerce > Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it into your reply here.

If you could also provide the fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs.

You will receive an e-mail with a link that will take you again to the lost password request page, not to the new password setting page as expected.

I registered, and then I could reproduce the issue on my end.

I understand you already ran a conflict test with no success. To clarify, did you check using WooCommerce 7.4.0? I am asking because in the system status report, the version of WooCommerce is 7.3.0.

Is the site using any custom code that you can temporarily disable to see if this is affecting the normal lost password email behavior? Custom code is added to the site’s functions.php file, or sometimes could be added via plugins.

Let us know what you find.

Hello. Yes, I have run a thorough conflict test as explained in my original message. This included a barebone website with only WP, WC and the default theme, with every server-side cache service disabled.

WooCommerce has indeed been upgraded from 7.3 to 7.4 in the time this thread has been open. Anyway I have just upgraded to WC 7.4 and it the problem persists.

I noticed your site URL has a /tickets part at the end which is not the normal behaviour of the Home Pages. Also, your theme is outdated.

Could you please try removing the /tickets and temporarily switch to Storefront?

Thanks for your quick answer, but it has left me more confused than before.

The address indeed features “/tickets” at the end, but that is not an arbitrary add-on, but the actual address of the site. We have a corporate site at bearcarnival.com, and the online shop at bearcarnival.com/tickets. They are two completely separate installs and websites. Is it compulsory for WooCommerce to be installed at the root folder of a domain? Isn’t WooCommerce able to run on a folder without lost passwords being unrecoverable? If that’s the case, it is a crazy bug WooCommerce team should address.

Regarding the “outdated” theme, I updated it before the recent conflict test as I said in my original message just days ago. Anyway I have just updated it again, with the same result as expected. OceanWP is a WooCommerce optimized theme (that’s why I chose it), and it runs in thousands of WC-powered sites. I don’t undestand your suggestion of me redesigning my whole site around WooCommerce’s Storefront theme. I would do this gladly if I had the smallest hint that the problem is theme-related. But the problem does not dissapear even with WordPress default theme, as I have informed before.

If I understand you correctly, you’ve tested it again using OceanWP as your theme and only WooCommerce is active, and still, the problem exists, right?

As you’ve said that you want to know if this is theme-related, could you please try to switch to the default Storefront theme and only WooCommerce plugin is enabled and see if this works?

No, you have not understood me correctly. This is the fourth time I explain this:

• PROBLEM IS NOT THEME-RELATED. Problem persists even when OceanWP is disabled, and WordPress default theme (ie, twenty twenty-two) is restored. I guess WooCommerce does work correctly with WordPress default theme. Right? I undertand Storefront theme is not required to run WooCommerce, right? So why are you insisting on this?
• PROBLEM IS NOT CACHE-RELATED. Problem persists even when LiteSpeed is disabled both at WordPress-level and at server level (not only “purged” as you suggest). I have also deactivated any other caching system, both server-side (CDN) and client-side (different browsers on incognito mode). Problem does not dissapear.

So please, if you don’t have a clue about how to help, just say it instead of jumping around the problem and making me repeat the same information four times. Is there anything ELSE I can do to solve the problem, apart from a conflict test, upgrading everything, disabling cache and reverting to default theme?

Thanks for clearing that up! I checked out the Password Reset emails and had the same experience.

The most common causes for this redirection are theme and cache related, so we had to get that out of the way. That said, server-side caching on the the “my-account” and “lost-password” pages is a frequent culprit.

Endpoints
The next thing to check is WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > Account Endpoints. The lost password endpoint should be lost-password: https://d.pr/i/Qv1GZh

You can try leaving this empty to see if it helps. Also, make sure your page has the [woocommerce_my_account] shortcode.

Permalinks
Go to Settings > Permalinks. Change to plain, save. Change back again to your current setting and re-save.
