lost passwords and rearranging user levels

  • I set a site up for a friend, which is going great. The problem is, I set him up as the admin user (level 10) and he’s somehow lost his password and the ‘forgotten password’ email isn’t getting through to him either, so he’s effectively locked himself out of the account.
    I’m stuffed if I can work it out, other system generated emails are getting through fine.

    I have considered manually changing the data in the SQL tables so that I could receive his reminder email and at least sort his account out. Any recommendations/warnings about this?

    To avoid future occurrences I want to drop his account to a lower level so that the admin account can fix any problems. How should I do this? and how do I create a new admin account? or do I have to create him a new lower level account and transfer ownership of all his posts etc? If so, is there any easy way of doing this?
