Lost the Admin table to left of Dashboard

Hello – I’m working with the newest WP and the interface is great – however I seem to have lost the left hand admin bar in my workspace. whenever I log in I get all the ‘at a glance’ comments’ boxes ie. the moveable boxes but can’t get the control panel.
Consequently i cannot access plugins etc.
I’m sure this is a setting issue but I cannot find out how to turn that setting back on…Alistair
