I love NS Cloner. It worked fast and perfectly when I set it up a few month ago. But today I was in the process of installing a secure certificate, and I made a mess of things, and now I cannot access the second site.

There were two, one at le-vieux-manoir.com, and one at le-vieux-manoir.com/fr/, but the second site disappeared. Not really sure what I did. (The second site is a French version of the first). Here are the steps I took:

    1. I installed a secure certificate for the site.

    2. I made a database backup.

    3. I upgraded to the latest NS Cloner plugin.

    4. I also upgraded to WordPress 4.2.1, and updated the individual sites.

Everything looked good, except there were a few links to non-secure assets. I got rid of all but two, by changing the url from “https://somedomain.com” to “//somedomain.com”.

I decided to use the search/replace software for WordPress from interconnect. I changed files with https:// to //. At this point, I realised I lost the clone, so I restored the database backup, but it did not help. I still can’t access le-vieux-manoir.com/fr/.

I’m wondering if there is a pointer or database entry somewhere that I can change to make this all better. Any suggestions? I’d just as soon not have to redo the entire French site.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi John,

Given that a complete (I’m assuming the backup was for all tables?) database reversion didn’t restore the site, it seems probable that it’s a file issue – perhaps the interconnect software made a change to wp-config.php or .htaccess?

Not sure how familiar you are with the WP database but you could also look over that with phpmyadmin to make sure the French site’s tables are in fact there (that something didn’t go haywire with the backup) and that the French site is listed in the wp_blogs table.

    Best regards

    Thanks for your fast response.

Yes, the backup was for the complete database.

I looked at both the .htaccess and wp-config.php files, and they both appear to be unchanged.

The wp-blogs table has entries for both the regular site and the French site. The only odd thing there is that the regular site has a last_updated date of today and the French site, of 2015-03-19. Maybe the latest WP update somehow missed that.

In any case, I noticed that the home and siteurl entries in the wp_3_options table were both set to https://le-vieux-manoir.com instead of https://le-vieux-manoir.com/fr/, so I changed that, and everything seems to be OK now.

Would that make sense to you? Does it seem like a fix?

Thanks again for your very prompt help.

No problem, glad you got it sorted! That would indeed explain the problem; I’m not sure how those options entries got set to the wrong items, but I agree that sounds like a fix.
