• My WordPress site has been up and running some time. I think I made a mistake with widgets, and now the website is completely blank. On the Dashboard it says “ERROR: The themes directory is either empty or doesn’t exist. Please check your installation.” When I look at themes, I get: “Name dkret3 Description Stylesheet is missing.” I just want to restore what I had before! Can someone help – in very simple language please!

  • open up your style.css in your theme folder, and paste what is before all the styles (on line 1)… within the /* and */

Re-upload a fresh, unpacked, copy of the Twenty Eleven folder to wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

Thanks for response Kegan: I go into Themes and there’s a choice of manage themes or install themes – I can’t find style.css there. You can see I’m a beginner with this!

Thanks also esmi – Will that restore all my content and settings as they were?

No – this will just install and hopefully activate the current default WordPress theme which should never, ever, be edited or deleted. That hopefully will get your site up & running again but we have no way of knowing what theme you were using previously. Do you know?

@judy: sorry i was talking about using an FTP client.

instead click appearance > editor and paste those lines. i’m guessing you’re missing info you need within the css comments.
