• I just about had WP up and was workig through some changes in the setup. I added the Optimal Title Plugin and was trying to replace the code for the title. There was a note at the bottom of the box with the code that if the file was writable you could change the code. So dumb me, I went back into the FTP program and tried make it writable.

Now I cannot view my blog, when I go into Presentation>themes, there are no themes present. The Plugins are gone from the plugin page.

Any ideas of what I messed up or should I just start over?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

    What exactly did you do?

Using SmartFTP, I right clicked on the file I thought should be writable and changed the permissions. I cannot remember doing anything else. But I may have….

In the case of files that would mean making them 666 – and only the theme template files that you want to edit online.

Well, if it doesn’t work, change them back to 644, that’s the default for files and see if it works.
Then edit your template files offline (after making a backup copy) and upload the modified files. It is always safer!

I have been trying that, not a thing. The program can’t even find the themes. Maybe I had better start over. Thanks for trying. I’m not very comfortable with FTP. I’m just getting the hang of my website and now I’m lost again with WP…
