Lost WordPress.com site when switching to self-hosted site

Try to make an entry in the Windows Host file to point to your old blog.

1. Navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
2. Open the file hosts with notepad or any other text editor
3. At the end of file add the following:

74.200.243.251 https://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com
74.200.244.59 https://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com
76.74.254.120 https://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com
76.74.254.123 https://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com
72.233.2.58 https://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com
72.233.69.6 https://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com

Login to WordPress.com, get all the content, and once done remove the entries from the Hosts file. Each time you make changes to the Windows Hosts file, make sure you restart the browser.

I had a WordPress.com site with the domain name https://www.watersportinfos.net (not https://www.watersportinfos.wordpress.com)and have decided to host in myself. The problem was that as soon as I sett he nameservers, the entire content of the site has dissappeared and been replaced by the standard startup content of WordPress. Have I now lost all my content or can I use the same method that has been described here?

You need to go into your wordpress.com login and edit your domain settings to tell wordpress.com to not use your own domain name again, but tell wordpress to go back to the original name.wordpress.com URL instead.
That way you can visit your new black wordpress with your own URL and visit the old wordpress.com one at the wordpress’s URL. That will help you with the transfer process.
