I’ve been using the plugin successfully for a while now. Recently I ran a broken link checker and found that I have over a hundred broken links to images that I’ve replaced. I usually update an image with a new filename and have the plugin update the links. How do I fix the problem? Do I need to just unlink the file image URL? How do I keep the problem from continuing as I update images?

    Hi @scotchscones,

If you can tell us more information about how to reproduce the issue, like a step-by-step, that’d be great.

In the meantime, you can use https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/better-search-replace/ to replace your old URLs.

    There’s not much to it…

    1. Open the image file
    2. Click on the “upload new file”
    3. Click on “choose file”
    4. For Replacement Options, select “Replace the file, use new file name and update all links”
    5. For Date Options, select “Keep the date”
    6. Select Update
    7. The File successfully replaced banner displays

I don’t know how long it takes for a broken link to show up, or if it happens every time.

Here’s an example of a broken image link: https://www.scotchandscones.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/brown-sugar-bars-stacked.jpg
Here’s the updated image link: https://www.scotchandscones.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/brown-sugar-bars-stacked-square.jpeg

The correct image shows up in the post, but I’m getting the broken image link error from the Broken Link Checker plugin. Some of the links in the report have been broken for 2 months, but I just didn’t know it. What do you think is the problem and how can I fix it?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi @scotchscones,

Thank you. The behavior you see is normal. Once you replace an image and use a new file name, the old file name becomes unavailable. The question is, why Broken Link Checker sees that old filename. Two possibilities:

    1. Enable Media Replace is not replacing some of the links. For this, we have to know where exactly those links are, and then we have to find why EMR does not replace them. If you can find that information, that’d be great
    2. Broken Link Checker is still seeing and old version of your pages. So perhaps all you need to do is clear cache from your plugins, server, CDN, etc.

    Cheers,
