• Testimonials Widget is, without a doubt, one of the best plugins for displaying and managing testimonials on your site. I love the ease of use and flexibility, and it integrated perfectly into our site, WP101Plugin.com.

While many plugins suffer from a lack of updates, this plugin has quite the opposite problem. Over the past three days, there has been a new update released every single day! This plugin has more updates than any other plugin I’ve ever seen, and it’s gotten so annoying that I’m contemplating ditching it altogether.

I removed one star from my rating because of the super-frequent update schedule. Surely these minor updates could be rolled into less frequent releases?

I removed another star because this isn’t the first time that an update has resulted in the renaming of object attributes, forcing me to re-do my custom CSS styles. I’m ready for a more stable solution.

    Shawn,

Thank you very much for your feedback. I deeply appreciate it.

Did you read FAQ 54. Why is that there is an update like every other day?.

If you check the readme.txt, you’ll see that the past 3 releases dealt with two bug fixes and the location feature. Sure, they could’ve waited for a week for a single release. However, that’d mean that the people having those issues weren’t able to get done with their tasks.

I’ll be sad to lose you and WP101 as Testimonials Widget user, but I understand if you must move on.

    Ciao!

    Hi Michael,

I respect your diligence, and your commitment to knock out bugs right away definitely sets you apart from other developers.

I just get tired of having to do the update “dance” multiple times per week across all three of the sites that make up the WP101 family. And I’m not just referring to the past few days; this is the definitely the pattern for this particular plugin.

Again, I admire your responsiveness, but would love to see updates released less frequently. I’ll look into the Testimonials plugin by WooThemes, and wish you all the best!

    Shawn,

You could always only worry about updating sites and such once a month. In general, if the plugins are working when you install them, you can wait till your next scheduled server and system update routine.

Good luck with moving on. Please do let me know you think Testimonials plugin by WooThemes compares.

    再見!

    Shawn,

Has the release generally on Sunday/Monday been working better for you?

I know I had 2 releases this week with a memory leak.

How has WooPress Testimonials worked out for you?

    Thanks for the follow-up Michael,

I migrated my primary site (WP101.com) to Testimonials by WooThemes and — after re-creating all my CSS styles — it’s worked just fine.

I still use your Testimonials Widget on my other site, WP101Plugin.com.

But I just updated to version 2.12.1 from 2.10 and saw that it broke all the CSS attributes. I had to re-create all my custom CSS once again, something I could have done just one last time by switching to Testimonials by WooThemes.

I’m sure these changes are done in the interest of making your plugin more standards-compliant, but I hope you can see why I still wince every time I see another update notification for the Testimonials Widget.

Thanks again for the follow-up, Michael. Much appreciated!

    Shawn,

Thank you for the feedback. I’ve been wincing myself for when I finally made the leap to implement WordPress coding standards across the Testimonials Widget plugins. It was a hard call, but one that needed to be done now than later. Otherwise, the migration pains would be worse.

It’d be nice to see you come back, but if you’re up and running, it’s best to focus on revenue than this little stuff.

    Ciao!

Are you still having any troubles with the Testimonials Widget plugins?

    Thread Starter Shawn Hesketh

    (@shawndh)

Unfortunately, yes. I upgraded to 3.6.1 this morning, and all my testimonials disappeared, replaced with only the text, “Array.”

I followed the recommendation of one of the other folks in the support forum who suggested copying the code from the previous version of the plugin on GitHub, which resolved that issue temporarily.

Still, I wince every single time I see an update to this plugin, since I’m never sure what’s going to happen after updating.

    Shawan,

I was worried about that. I pushed out some client requested premium changes last night and didn’t check the freebie close enough.

My apologies. Anyways, there’s new versions of free up and running that run fine with 3.6.1 now. Do let me know if there’s any hassle.
