LSS and Amazon Elastic Beanstalk

I am having difficulty getting the login security solution to work properly on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Elastic Beanstalk (EBS). Has anybody run into anything like this?

It appears that the load balancer may have something to do with it, as I had to update some whitelisted ip addresses in .ht access to use {HTTP:X-FORWARDED-FOR} instead of {REMOTE_ADDR}.

It is a little more troublesome than when I moved a site to the EC2, where I could manually set login-security-solution-pw-force-change to 0 in the database, every time I set it to 0 or remove it, the plugin keeps adding it back.

(And a little background, I am a professional/trained programmer/database designer who has fallen into a job that uses wordpress, so I am pretty new to the wordpress side of things.)
