<code> not working properly

This is an odd one for me. I have a web design blog, and typing out code in my posts is CRUCIAL..

Well, I wrote my first post where I had a lot of code through out. I correctly used the tags but its STILL not working.. And I am wondering if it is because it is impartial code???

I am trying to teach, step by step, what the code means for linking an image.. So I would type:
<a href=

and thats it, but it would WAYS be between code tags.. but it does NOT how, but it WILL make all the text after into a LINK!!! I dont udnerstand.. If you think it iwill help, i will post the ENTIRE blog post here.. maybe someone can find something
