• Hi,

Right now I’m getting this message at /wp-admin/install.php

    Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

    I’m using “localhost” right now.

    Any help?

  • I believe ‘localhost’ is right so make sure you have the correct DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD, and DB_NAME also.

I made up database name, username and password when I typed them into the config.php file.

Then I uploaded it along with the rest of wordpress files.

You can tell I’m new here… Do I need to set these values on the server side in addition to the config file?

YES. You need to create the database, the database user (and password). See Installing WordPress.

Submit a ticket with your host. They should explain how to do it in the control panel.
