• Does anyone know of a good Mac OS X program for posting/editing to WordPress? NetNewsWire is often mentioned, but I could never get it to see WP categories, and now especially not multiple categories. Kung-Log is also mentioned a lot, but it is unavailable while the developer re-writes it as a new program. Any other suggestions?

  • ecto and nnw work for me… with categories… using a nightly from the other day 1.2 alpha

    atmasphere: are you able to get ecto to upload an image?

    I haven’t tried image upload yet, but posting and categories has been working for a while. You do have to wait a little after posting as the page seems to dissappear for a while while WP does its thing, then it reappears with the changes. The bigger problem I’m having is with the fact that two ecto features seem disabled with WP:
    (1) It doesn’t convert line breaks in preview.
    (2) The list view doesn’t allow me to ctl-click to view in the browser.
    I was able to modify the template to show the preview (apart from line breaks), you just need to make sure that where the content is you use the Movable Type content tag rather than the WP tag in the preview template. Like so:
    <div class="post">
    <div class="storycontent">
    <$BODY$>
    </div>
    </div>

    Has anybody got the latest story on ecto support? I choose the MT API and it appears to retrieve the information but it won’t list the posts. It blows up with the Blogger API and MetaWeblog API. I’m simply pointing it to the xmlrpc.php file in the root of my site.

    InsultsUnpunished, there were some issues with ecto and XML-RPC in our last release that are fully addressed in the upcoming 1.2 release.

    allusion….will the image upload be working in ecto with 1.2…I am using a nightly Apr30th and it is not.
    Thanks

    I’m using the latest beta release (not nightly) and ecto 1.1.2. I definitely see a problem manually modifying the timestamp from w/in ecto. I am able to post w/multiple categories, but can not retrieve the list of recent posts to edit directly from the server. I have not tried uploading an image.
    Let me know what I can do to help with this development.

    If anyone’s interested, here I posted some “hack” to make ecto 1.1.4 and WordPress 1.2 Delta work together for some stuff.
    WordPress 1.2 Delta and ecto 1.1.4

    The only thing that is not working for me with WP1.2 and Ecto 1.1.7 is that ecto is not finding all the posts that I made using the web interface. Other than that is works great.

    The next netnewswire will support wp.

    I came to wordpress after using iBlog. It was ok, but not that cool. So, my questions, is why would anyone want to blend the 2? Isn’t WP much better?
    Yes, I am a newbie, so this is probably a dumb and basic question. What do you gain from using something other than WP to post to your WP site?
    Thanks.

    elmsblog: For connectivity reasons (your on a lappy and don’t have an internet connection at the time) and easier editing of copy in more of a WYSIWYG environment. Also, using tools like NetNewsWire [Pro], it allows one environment with all your newsfeeds, notes, posts etc so you can keep track of what you are writing in your blog.

    Don’t know if this has been mentioned here (I’ve not managed to find it) but there are still problems with timestamps in WP 1.2 and the latest ecto – apparently if your server and client are in different timezones. I observed it myself and from the ecto forums it seems that other people have too.
    Basically it seems that everything works fine when configuring it as an MT blog, except that when you post the entry is set to local server time ignoring any modifier, e.g. when I post from the US to my UK server things appear five hours in the future.

    ecto 1.1.7 works like a charm except for lack of a working file upload and time stamp issue can be annoying when eiditing old entries.

    For those still interested in file upload from Ecto to WordPress, I posted a patch that solves this. It’s a hack, so be aware of glitches!
