I know this has been looked at before, but I couldn’t find much by way of help or suggestions: I’d like to offer some Products as “Made to Order” and that doesn’t seem to be an option. There’s “On Back-Order” but that doesn’t exactly mean the same thing and I reckon some folks wouldn’t quite understand what that means.

    Any suggestions, please?

    Hey there!

Can you describe with more detail what the differences are between your “made to order” and “regular” products, as far as your online store is concerned? Do you need some different functions? Do you just want to tell your customers that it’s custom?

All the info you can share will help us in advising further.

Okay, thanks. I’ll try: Mostly, my products are one-offs and I add them to the website as and when they’re made – when they’re sold, stock goes to zero and I’ve set it to ‘available on back-order, but notify customer’, so that it gives folks the opportunity for me to make another. That’s the best way I’ve found of doing it, but I don’t think it’s ideal and I’m not convinced they’d understand ’back-order’. I’ve added some explanation in the preamble, even in each product description.
So, what I’d like is another option (not sure how – is why I’m asking here!) to show that the product isn’t made yet, but you can pre-order one. There, I used another term… oops. Now I’m unsure the difference between custom-made and pre-order?
    Does that help?

I should add that I thought of simply changing the words ‘on back-order’ to ‘made to order’ and that might suffice. What about that? I wouldn’t have a clue how to go about doing that, though…

    Hey again!

I think for your case, it does make sense to keep the same flow you are using, and just change the wording.

You can do this by using a free translation plugin like Loco Translate (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/loco-translate/).? I know it may sound strange to “translate” your own language, but it works. ?? This will allow you to find that phrase and change it to be what you’d like.

This will allow you to change it from “available to backorder” to “available for made-to-order” or whatever you’d like ??

Thanks, that sounds promising and I’ll give it a try

Sure thing, if you have further questions, I’d say start a new thread and we can go from there!

    Have a great one!
