• Hi there,
OK….I’m maybe a dummy, but after creating an entire website, I hope I can post this question, after searching for many hours…

    Here’s what I did:
1/ Install plugin magic action box
    2/ Registered in mailchimp
3/ Created a sign up form with an embedded code that I pasted in the magic action box
4/ placed the magic action box-widget in the right sidebar of my website
5/ I have a pdf in a template on mailchimp, but no idea what or where next…

    What do I want:
An opt-in box (like everyone else) where people SIMPLY put mailaddress and SIMPLY get a FREE pdf.

    What is my problem:
1/I managed the opt in box (took it away now so I can’t show you now) but when I put my email address, it takes me to a subscribing page….
2/ I don’t want a subscribe list, I want to give people a FREE PDF!
3/ HOW, please, HOW do I get a pdf link somewhere so that people click on the opt in and then get the pdf????

    It seemed so simple…
Can someone explain the RIGHT steps to take in a child/dummy language
    PLEASE

    I’d be so grateful

    Thank you!!!

    Hi @rsmets,

I’m not at all sure what you wish to do. If you do not wish to have a subscribe list, then you won’t need to ask for their email.

Based on your post, I believe what you need is a download button.

On the paid versions of the plugin, there is an action box type where you could add a button that links to your pdf.

BUT, there are FREE solutions out there you can use. See https://noorsplugin.com/easy-media-download-plugin-for-wordpress/

    Hi Again,
    Thank you.
Your suggestion is interesting to know, and might be useful temporary.
But now that I read so much about Mailchimp, I would think it’s best to track the emails.
So, forget my question 2 and please provide me your answer to 1/ and 3/
as I really want it simply and easily BUT still track emails.
ON Mailchimp, there are campaign, subscriber lists, etc etc…
Do I need to fill in all?
Do I even need the magic action box?

Oh well..please DO look at my initial questions please…

I really hope to get clarity.

Thank you!!!! I appreciate ALL your information and knowledge!
(PS: and I rather here about FREE versions)

#1 – yes, that is the default behaviour for double opt in process. People enter their email address, then, they get taken to a CONFIRMATION PAGE that tells them to check their email to confirm their subscription. After they confirm (by following the instructions in the email), they get sent the FINAL WELCOME email and they get a THANK YOU PAGE.

#3 – there are two usual places you can add your pdf download. The final welcome email or the thank you page.

For the final welcome email option, see this article: https://www.molly-greene.com/2-easy-ways-to-offer-giveaways-on-your-blog/ and follow the 2nd option.

For the thank you page option: https://blog.mailchimp.com/custom-redirect-urls-for-subscribe-form/

Basically, create a thank you page in your wp site, add the download pdf ebook in that page, then grab the link to the page you just created and enter it into the mailchimp thank you page url.

NOTE: all of what I just said doesn’t require magic action box plugin ?? come back to the plugin once you start to ask “how do I make my sign up forms look better?”
