Mailchimp for WordPress not showing subscription in Ninja form

    I have both ninja plug-in (Version 2.9.42) and Mailchimp for WordPress (Version 3.1.6 )installed and activated.
    I have the API added to general settings
    I have selected from the MailChimp for WordPress under integrations to enable Ninja Forms

    What works: adding the shortcode in a page to add an email to the mailchip test list I created.
    What does not work: I have a contact page that includes: [ninja_forms id=1]

    what I expected is the checkbox to show up under the name and email of the ninja form.
    I have the free Mailchimp for WordPress (Version 3.1.6 ). Does Ninja form integration work for the free version? It says Ninja Forms are active.
