    Hi

I initially installed Mailchimp for WooCommerce plugin (created by Mailchimp) which simply doesn’t work. Why Mailchimp has released such a poor quality plugin and does nothing to improve it in spite of many complaints is beyond me, but that’s another issue.

Since there is no access to Mailchimp support unless you pay for a premium account (which I don’t), I removed their plugin few weeks ago and installed Woocommerce Mailchimp plugin (by another third party) which I thought was working fine until I discovered that it breaches the privacy laws.

On my checkout page I have the Opt In Box ticked. So if the customer removes the tick, it means they don’t wish to subscribe. And yet, when I checked my Mailchimp list I saw that several customers who did NOT wish to subscribe (unticked the box) have still been added to my Mailchimp list!!

This is wrong on two levels:

    1. It is a breach of privacy as it adds customers to my Mailchimp list against their wish and without consent. As such, it is UNLAWFUL.

    2. It creates a list of “non-subscribed audience” in my Mailchimp account which I don’t need, don’t want and can’t do anything with it, as Mailchimp will not allow me to send any promotional emails to those people even if I wanted to.

    I have two questions:
    1. Are you aware of the unlawful behaviour of this plugin which integrates with WooCommerce?
    2. Do you have your own Mailchimp plugin, and if not, which pluging do you recommend?

The MailChimp for WooCommerce is a little wonky I’ll give ya that but it does work. What exactly wasn’t working on it?

Most 3rd party plugins that are not thru WC you’ll have to get support from those authors. As volunteers here we can only help so much on those.

yes, of course I know that you don’t offer support on 3rd party plugins – no one does.
    My question were:
    1. are you aware of the issues of Woocommerce Mailchimp which integrates with your plugin?
    2. Do you recommend any particular Mailchimp integration plugin for WooCommerce? There are only a few on the market.

and to answer your question – MailChimp for WooCommerce wasn’t subscribing my customers at all, and yes, I have tested this myself as a customer opting in. Then at some point the optin checkbox simply disappeared from the checkout altogether. Since I don’t have access to Mailchimp support to resolve this issue, I had to remove the plugin.

    1. No, we use it on our own site and have never had an issue.

    2. No, we only use MC authored plugin and I doubt anyone else is going to recommend any other.

It’s possible you don’t have things configured correctly. You could have a bad API key. Even if you had the right key you could always create another key and try with that.
You’re more than welcome to take screenshots of your settings for MC in the backend of WP so we can review.

In my opinion it’s the best plugin for connecting the store directly.

    ok, thanks for your reply.

I will give it another go.

PS although it has only 2.5 stars in reviews – which contain many complaints about functionality issues similar to mine.

    (@serafinnyc)

Sure thing. Just post back your settings if you have trouble. I’m using it on our highend site and have automated campaigns running and the whole thing. I’ve only had one issue that I caught and pointed it out to MC and they fixed it immediately after I brought it to their attention last year.

Post your settings if you want later. I’ll review for you.

    (@serafinnyc)

Yeah I wouldn’t go by the reviews on that one. Believe me. I read them too and it was funny but half are from angry elves.

    (@magicpowers)

well. Since you have asked for the feedback.

I have reinstalled MC for WC. After sync and all the settings configured correctly (with a brand new API) – just like before, the Opt In check box is nowhere to be found.

Unless I find the fix for the optin checkbox, I won’t be able to use the plugin.
The plugin support on the forum is very poor – only 2 issues out of 32 have been resolved in the past 2 months.. That’s like…one issue per month. Does’t look like MC is committed to the free forum support.

as to the reviews – yes, there are always some angry elves for every plugin, but all 94 angry elves giving it just one star…?

    my checkbox display option is:

    visible, checked by default.

    The WC form action is:
    woocommerce_after_checkout_billing_form

Where is the Opt in Checkbox?

would be great if you could help….

I now saw on the MC support forum a note that…..the forum is no longer supported! Great. The note refers users to Mailchimp Support which….is available only to paid customers!

I don’t know how MC can get away with not providing support for its free plugin – which I understand is REQUIRED by WP.

I saw this issue in several posts on line – unresolved.

Until I hear from you (hopefully with a fix!), I need to deactivate MC for WC and reactivate the other plugin.

at least, I had the optin checkbox there.

    Stef

    (@serafinnyc)

I see your opt in button right here.

    yes.

As I said above, I had to deactivate MC for WC because it had NO optin checkbox and reactivate WC MC (different plugin by Saint Systems) in order to have an optin checkbox.

I didn’t know when you will be able to have a look and couldn’t leave my checkout without the Mailchimp optin at all.

My question is – do you know why MC for WC does not show the optin checkbox and how to fix it?

Well, I can look now. But if you’re concerned then create a staging site where you can test things. That way you don’t have to affect your live site.

    Thread Starter magicpowers

    (@magicpowers)

You have already seen it – as per your screenshot. Except that I already actived another plugin.

Nothing has affected my site, checking on the staging site is not relevant here.

You are not part of the WC team, are you?…

I was hoping to hear from WC.

Clearly you don’t know how to fix the optin checkbox in MC WC plugin, so there is no point in continuing this conversation. thanks
