    Hi

I initially installed Mailchimp for WooCommerce plugin (created by Mailchimp) which simply doesn’t work. Why Mailchimp has released such a poor quality plugin and does nothing to improve it in spite of many complaints is beyond me, but that’s another issue.

Since there is no access to Mailchimp support unless you pay for a premium account (which I don’t), I removed their plugin few weeks ago and installed Woocommerce Mailchimp plugin (by another third party) which I thought was working fine until I discovered that it breaches the privacy laws.

On my checkout page I have the Opt In Box ticked. So if the customer removes the tick, it means they don’t wish to subscribe. And yet, when I checked my Mailchimp list I saw that several customers who did NOT wish to subscribe (unticked the box) have still been added to my Mailchimp list!!

This is wrong on two levels:

    1. It is a breach of privacy as it adds customers to my Mailchimp list against their wish and without consent. As such, it is UNLAWFUL.

    2. It creates a list of “non-subscribed audience” in my Mailchimp account which I don’t need, don’t want and can’t do anything with it, as Mailchimp will not allow me to send any promotional emails to those people even if I wanted to.

    I have two questions:
    1. Are you aware of the unlawful behaviour of this plugin which integrates with WooCommerce?
    2. Do you have your own Mailchimp plugin, and if not, which pluging do you recommend?

I am a former WC & WP contributor and I’ve been programming for over 30 years. Most of us are volunteers in this forum. If you want to hear from WC directly you will need submit a ticket but your complaining about a plugin that works.

    Have a nice day.

I asked only because at first you said you can help me identify the issue and then kept avoiding my question about how to fix it. Which means you don’t have the solution.

So we were going in circles.

This plugin might be working well for you and many others – but it’s not working for me for some reason.

If you don’t know how to fix the problem that’s fine, this is a third party plugin. But if you engage in the conversation asking me for the details and then avoid the question – it’s just a waste of time for everyone.

and by the way, I have heard directly from WC on this forum many times, and they were very helpful.

    Have a nice day.

I never said I could help you. I asked specific questions in order to pinpoint the issue and gave you valid instructions.

You’re a very angry person to start with. Don’t take your frustration out on those who are attempting to help you.

You don’t want to be advised, you simply want to complain.

please refrain from personal attacks on me just because your response to my question was confusing and undecided – and this thread shows it clearly.

that’s unprofessional and not wanted on this or any other forum.

I won’t dignify your personal attack by addressing its points in defence.

Please do not reply to my posts on this an any other forum ever again. If anyone is angry here it is you.

WC members – I marked this thread as resolved (even though it is not resolved) only to close it due to the unprofessional and unwarranted personal attacks by one user – apparently an ex-WC member.

This forum is NOT a place for personal attacks just because someone has pointed out that user’s replies as confusing and undecided. If he has no intention to help or is unable to help, he should not engage in a pointless conversation going in circles just to show his presence on this forum.

    Please close this thread.

Hey there @magicpowers – as @serafinnyc mentioned, this is a public forum. Most people here are volunteers and are happy to help, but occasionally things don’t go well. I’ll still try to tackle your questions, so you’ve had some answers.

Why Mailchimp has released such a poor quality plugin and does nothing to improve it in spite of many complaints is beyond me, but that’s another issue.

The WooCommerce MailChimp plugin that’s available via WooCommerce.com is the one that I usually recommend. However, Mailchimp handles the development and support for it, so I don’t know too much beyond the fact that I can install it and have it work.

Indeed, that’s not something I have much insight into. I was surprised to hear that Mailchimp is only offering support to paid users. In theory, most of the resources that they’ve provided should cover most support scenarios, but certainly not all of them. Given that it’s Mailchimp’s plugin, I can’t promise any changes, but I’ve passed this on to the relevant team within WooCommerce.com.

I wish I could give you more concrete answers on this. I appreciate that you’ve raised the questions, which has lead to some investigating on my part. As it’s not our plugin, though, there’s only so much I can do.

In terms of concrete advice, I’d recommend trying another Mailchimp plugin (there are plenty of options) until you find one that meets your needs. Alternatively, I noticed that Mailchimp offers 30 days of support for free accounts – why not create a new account for testing purposes?

I hope that helps you in the right direction!

    thanks for your reply Hannah.
yes I know this is not your plugin so I wasn’t expecting a solution from you, rather advice which plugin you recommend to use with WC.

I already have a Mailchimp account (free) and used the 30 days of free support for new accounts years ago.

Even though I have been told by WP that all developers of free plugins available on WP are required to provide FREE support on the plugin’s forum – Mailchimp has stopped that support. If you go to that page you will see the note that they are no longer monitoring new posts and refer people to their help section opn their website for support – not disclosing that support is available to PAID accounts only. I don’t know how they are getting away with it.

I choose not to have a paid account with Mailchimp as I use it only occassionally so the expense is not justified.

Anyway, I have found another Mailchimp integration plugin which works better, although still with some errors. By contrast to Mailchimp, that (free) plugin developer has quickly replied to my email and offered troubleshooting and support at no cost.

Either way, this is not a critical issue.

    thank you for your support.
