    Hi!
I encountered a critical error this evening.
Up until yesterday the plugin and the connection to mailchimp worked perfectly, however, today when I it showed no new newsletter subscribers, which is very uncommon. So I took a look in the error log and found several ”503 Service unavailable” messages from today.

And when I had a look at the main settings tab it say “Status: Not connected” and above that a messages saying “MailChimp returned the following error:
    Service Unavailable.”

Has anyone else hade this problem today? How can I solve this?

    Thanks in advance

    Forgot to add:
I’ve tried creating a new API Key and switching out the old one. That didn’t work.

    Hello,

That seems strange. Can you please check https://mc4wp.com/kb/solving-connectivity-issues/ and follow the troubleshooting steps mentioned in it? Let us know if that helps to resolve this issue.

    Thanks.
I’ve submitted a support ticket to my webhost.

But the error message I’m receiving isn’t listed in the article you linked to. I’m getting “503 service unavailable”, not forbidden or any of the others listed in the article.

If it’s not the CURL, what can I do to trouble shoot this? It’s also particularly weird because on Thursday it all worked perfectly, then on Friday it went down.

Hi, this can either be a firewall issue on the side of your hosting provider, as well as the Akami firewall on the MailChimp side blocking the request.

Doing a manual cURL command on the SSH terminal (if available) or else asking your host to do that will often give you more information about the problem.
How to do that is explained under “Advanced” on the bottom of this page: https://mc4wp.com/kb/solving-connectivity-issues/

You can let us know what the result of running the cURL command is if you still need help after doing that.

I am currently having this issue as well – followed the same step above

I am having the same problem, same error: MailChimp returned the following error:
    Service Unavailable.
    Status NOT CONNECTED

I followed all the instructions at https://mc4wp.com/kb/solving-connectivity-issues/

GoDaddy says they are up to date with their PHP CURL & requests to https://*.api.mailchimp.com/ are not blocked (I spent some time on the phone with them last night.)

I used the advanced steps to test the API key via SSH. I got lots of output that I’m not sure is secure to paste here, but it looks like the connection was successful.

I am using MailChimp for WordPress Version 4.1.1, my site plug-ins, themes, and WP are all up to date. This was working a few weeks ago, because I received notification from MC of new subscribers. Now nothing.

I tried a new MailChimp API key with the same results.

The only change to my site since it was last working was that I added an SSL certificate. The article says that there was a known bug with WP 4.4, but I’m at 4.7.4. Also, I don’t get an error that indicates a problem with SSL.

I’m not sure where to go next. This makes Mailchimp completely useless. My main call to action is to get new subscribers. Suggestions?
