Mailing to readers (post notification)

There must be a plugin (or another simple way) to notify all users (subscribers or users in a separate table) of new posts.

Actually it’s not needed to be sent automatic on new posts, but it would be nice to have the excerpt and link of the last n posts ready to drag and drop into a mailing.

I only found plugins to either connect to a tool loke mailchimp or plugins where the subscriber needs to choose his categories in the backend. But I only want the user to be on the frontend, having a widget to subscribe or unsubscribe.

I couldn’t find any cool plugin that is working with the actual wordpress version (3.2.1 and soon 3.3)

Also combining it with something like comment notification would be great.

Any ideas or pointers?
